IN A WORD…
Summer Sand and surf are the order of the day when summer finally makes its much-anticipated debut. We need bags for the beach and music festivals, carryalls for our furry friends, and totes—those perennially popular totes. This year, flowers bloom on totes of every fabric and color. Whether they’re made of leather, canvas, straw, or PVC...it’s all about the flowers. Summer has arrived, and we have blooms by the bag! ALISON WOOD Editor

endi’s fur monsters and their memes are still alive and well, appearing on runways and streets in fashion meccas here and abroad. Spring found the furballs paired with charms and keychains of other designers as well as the micro handbags that are trending now. The New York Times’ Bill Cunningham documented the multiple charm trend on the streets of New York, and you’ll see it in the street fashion photos of photographer Tommy Ton as he follows the seasonal fashion events of 2015. If you like the trend, but prefer that animals wear their own fur, there are many alternatives available in stores and online… most with more reasonable price tags.

xercising retro power, fashion runways are seeing a trend in the drawstring bucket bag of the 70s. Slouchy and casual, the bags come with long shoulder straps for crossbody comfort. Soft leathers, printed and perforated leathers, canvas, and woven fabrics offer many choices for style exibility. Grab that bucket and exercise your wings for summer fun. This retro style is well done!

ummer travel often requires traveling by air, and the search is on for finding travel-friendly totes that make furry friends comfortable and travel-safe. Not all carriers are accepted by airlines, so look for products with the “air-friendly” label. Choices abound for both cats and dogs, running the gamut from economical to designer-luxurious. ecipient of the Queen’s M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire), Anya Hindmarch is not only a talented handbag designer, she is also a mother to five children and an avid philanthopist for causes from cancer care to raising funds for the Conservative Party. Hindmarch started her business at the tender age of 18, during the tenure of Margaret Thatcher, who inspired a “get out there and do it” attitude. While her peers were studying at the university, Anya was working from her kitchen table. But she persevered, sold some bags, opened a shop, and eventually royalty and celebs walked the little steps to her shop. There are now more than 58 Anya Hindmarch boutiques in cities around the world and the brand employs hundreds of workers. Perhaps the most iconic of Hindmarch’s bags is her canvas tote— ”I’m Not a Plastic Bag,” of which 90,000 were sold after the “right” people were photographed carrying the bag. Demand for it was high and the inventory was limited.
A keen sense of humor is evident in the designer’s bags, and you get the sense that she truly enjoys what she does. Her 2015 spring/summer collection was inspired by “schoolgirl” stickers embossed onto totes and evening clutches in bold neon leather with punched-out messages. Stickers may also be purchased individually for customizing any handbag through the Anya Hindmarch Sticker Shop, a collaboration with Chaos Fashion.
The 2015 fall/winter collection continues this fun trend with graphics from highway signage featuring arrows, men working, and street signs. More fun ahead from Anya Hindmarch!
