As we move into a new year many are finding themselves feeling a sense of uncertainty regarding what lies ahead. We’ve come through several years of challenges we never imagined would be a part of our day to day lives; The Covid-19 virus and the pandemic, national political upheaval, economic challenges; the price of eggs and milk or even a decent hotel room rate when traveling; troubles in our families and an upsurge in mental health revelations, and tornadoes and fires and floods and the list goes on. Many are left with, “where do I go from here?” It’s because we at GI know and understand your concerns, we understand that we can no longer remain just a Gospel Music trade magazine but have expanded our pages to minister to the whole man. We are in a season requiring healing for the land. We are here for you. Often times we get so caught up in the day-to-day cares of life that we lose focus on who is truly in control. It’s not outside forces or even ourselves, even though we do have the power of choice. We start to lose focus on how God has blessed us in the past, how he has brought us through dangers seen and unseen, and we realize we have unknowingly lost our way. We aren’t reading our word as much. We are not praying as much as we used to. Some say they can’t even feel God’s presence in their lives. But no matter how far we stray from his presence. He never strays from us. After all he did say in his word, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” My prayer is that as you read through each page of GI, that we will play a part in helping you to once again be moved to enjoy your quiet times with the Lord as you grow closer to him in your discovery of yourself in him, whether it’s through our Cooking section, our Mental Health Insights section, our Relationships section, our Finance section, or our Kingdom Building section. The Good Gospel Gossip section is always informative and even fun. The Church Bulletin Bloopers will make you laugh (that’s healing in and of itself), the crossword puzzles challenge the mind and create quietness and calmness in the spirit and by the time you’ve completed each issue you somehow feel energized, motivated, educated and spiritually enlightened. I thank you for allowing us to minister to you and would love to hear from you when we do at contact-us@gospelinternationl.com. Enjoy this issue of Gospel International remember to click the links throughout the publication that expand your reading pleasure and we look forward to seeing you again next month. It’s all about love.

Pilgrim B.C. in Compton, CA. and as First Assistant to the Presiding Bishop of Macedonia International Christian Fellowship. She serves as Chaplin of the Alliance of Gospel Music Professionals of GMWA. Academically she h Los Angeles and as an Announcer for her Church 's live broadcast. With her love for church and all facets of Gospel Music she became a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA). That decision was a no-brainer, especially when the King of Gospel Music Rev. James Cleveland, also lived in the city. Joining GMWA was more than being a part of a convention it was another forum of education, a bridge for networking, a secondary family, and commitment to Gospel excellence. Through the GMWA Gospel Announcer’s Guild ( GAG) she was inspired to begin her career in Gospel Radio on Station KTYM 1460 AM under the tutelage of Veteran Radio Personality Prez Blackmon and also The Great Orator, the late Edna Tatum. It was suggested she join an affiliate of GMWA, the Southern California Gospel Announcers Guild. This would be an evolution for her within the Gospel Industry. Bishop Kenneth Wells was then President of the Southern California GAG. She walked in the door as a novice learning everything she could. As time went on, she worked her way through every office in the local organization and became Bishop Wells Personal Assistant and Vice President. This afforded Jones the opportunity to establish relationships with Record Label Executives, Public Relations, Magazine Publishers etc. She had guidance from mentors on a National level such as Bishop Sam Williams, Dr. Lydia Gooden, Mama Curtis, Lady Donna Creer and Dr. Fran Kelly. Proceeding her tenure with SCGAG she served as Music Editor for Precious Times Magazine under the Publisher, Marilyn White. This opened doors for her as a contributor for other magazines and as an on-sight reporter for award shows such as the Grammys, Soul Train Awards, The Stellar Awards, BET, NAACP, and the McDonalds Gospel Fest. Other radio stations she hosted were The International Christian Network (ICN), KALI, Accelerated Radio, and Simply Gospel T.V. with Executive Producer Bill Bufkin. Bishop Susie Jones currently serves on the Editorial Team for Gospel International Magazine where she writes about Women in the Pulpit in this issue.

CBS recently announced that BEYOND THE GATES, the new daytime drama series and debut project from the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, will premiere Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, and air weekdays (2:00-3:00 PM, ET; 1:002:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+. BEYOND THE GATES is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. Here you’ll find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others. BEYOND THE GATES is developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. This marks the first-ever one-hour Black daytime soap and the first daytime drama to premiere since “Passions” in 1999. …….. Gospel music legend Brent Jones celebrated 25 years in music with a new Live CD & Video Recording at his home church, Friendship Baptist Church in Yorba Linda, CA, where it all began. “Wow, 25 years? It is amazing how time flies when you’re walking in your purpose and living your Best Life! In 1999, my trailblazing group - Brent Jones & T.P. Mobb - released our very first single “Good Times”, which not only crossed over and became a huge hit at Urban Radio but much to our awe, also dominated BET & television airwaves for over 59+ weeks. Fast forward to 2024, for God to bless me yet again with back-to-back Billboard #1’s (“Live Your Best Life!” & “Nothing Else Matters”), plus my 4-album ‘Quadruple Release’ this year, all I can say is wow and praise be to God for the awesome things He has done! Brent says, “As a teenager with dreams of pursuing music for living, I would not have believed you if you’d told me my music would be in movies like Troll World Tour or that I’d be working with some of world’s biggest stars such as Childish Gambino, Ariana Grande, etc. So, I am humbled by the longevity and diverse opportunities God has given me to impact the world with my music! With my crazy touring schedule, Artist-In-Residence at Triumph Church, radio show, ambitious recording schedule, and just being a husband & dad, I’m not sure how I can add anything else to my plate but stay tuned for even more in 2025. A very special thanks to Scheli, my wife of 31 years, for her unconditional support in allowing me to pursue my dreams and to live my BEST LIFE!” The Golden Triangle Music Awards returns on March 21, 2025, to the luxurious Pearl River Resort in Philadelphia, MS. Bishop T.D. Jakes, 67, appeared in a video message during The Potter’s House of Dallas worship service on Sunday, Dec. 1. Jakes’ appearance came after what The Potter’s House described as a “health incident” during a Nov. 24 service. Livestream footage showed the bishop seated on a stool, appearing to convulse slightly, which prompted immediate concern from those on stage and prayers from the congregation. The well-known pastor was hospitalized and released on Wednesday, Nov. 27. In an emotional video shared on social media, Jakes expressed gratitude for the prayers and support he received, emphasizing that the incident was not a stroke. “I give thanks unto the Lord that I did not have a stroke,” Jakes said. “However, the event could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention.” During Sunday’s address, Jakes provided details about his medical emergency and recovery, describing the experience as miraculous. “Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” he said. Jakes revealed he was rushed to the ICU, underwent emergency surgery, and survived what he described as a life-threatening event. “I’m grateful for God’s faithfulness, your faithfulness, and this season in my life,” he said. “I told you last Sunday I’d see you this Sunday, and here I am.” “I am grateful to God for his goodness and his mercy and his grace. Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” Jakes added. “I faced a life-threatening calamity. I was rushed to the ICU unit. I had emergency surgery [and] survived the surgery.” Indicating that he is under strict doctor’s orders to rest, Jakes shared his recovery timeline. “I’m trying to be obedient,” he said while noting his recovery should only take a few weeks. Despite receiving a clean bill of health at a recent physical, Jakes acknowledged that unexpected challenges can arise. “Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. And sometimes, things happen in spiritual warfare,” he said.

By Janette Auguar
Excerpt from Pt.1 featured in the December issue of Gospel International Jason said, “The excellence on the other hand is when we perfect the skill that God has given us, so that the stewardship over the gift is evident and appealing”
When I asked Jason about the anointing upon the choir, he clearly identified God as the giver of that special yoke-destroying empowerment. “I believe that it is more of the humility aspect which is ensuring that what we're doing is, ‘…Not About Us,’ literally!!! It is not in our name, not for our own glory and not for us to be seen. While people will see, the question is ‘what will they see when they look and is it great and does it represent the gift giver’? The anointing falling is not song dependent. It is what we do when we are not in the choir stand; it is prayer, it is the spiritual practices that we put in place that we make just as important, if not more important, than the rehearsals.” To foster a sense of community within the choir, Jason gives everyone ownership and holds them accountable for what is happening. “It is not one person's job. It is like being on a sports team. If one of us messes up, we all just messed up and there are no stars. Time spent not singing and not working but simply fellowshipping is important as well. One of the greatest compliments we received was when someone said, ‘I can tell you all are friends’”. I thoroughly enjoyed what Jason was putting down. He alluded to how a director is responsible for pouring back into his choir. Jason said, “Choirs have changed over the years, and it is because they have forgotten the ‘WHY.’ Too many want to step away from the group and be the stars and for that reason they have become a bit extinct. We must be careful to not just go for the wow factor of being a part of a choir instead of being a part of the community. The community is the real wow factor.”
January 2025
24
Jason went on to say, “I honestly believe that there will be a resurgence of the choir, and I really feel that in my heart. Everybody cannot be in front and so many people have a voice that they want to use for God. You cannot get rid of the choir because, that would be getting rid of the community.” He noted that, “It takes a special heart to be in a choir because you are signing up to lose your individual voice. Oh, you are signing up to not be heard.” That was revelatory for me. Jason’s cup was running over, and my saucer was right there. “Worship teams are incredible, and I love them, however, there is no sound like the choir. It is a commitment to come together to be a collective battering ram for the Kingdom of God. We are there to take a big swing at the enemy's camp and to knock something down together. That is the key. That is what you are signing up for. You are not signing up to be seen, you are not signing up to be the cutest one in the choir because you might be in the back, and no one may ever know your name. However, the impact you will have on someone you may never meet is immeasurable.” Jason shared how being a Choir Director has its challenges. He deduced that the level of respect for the magnitude of responsibility is lacking. “It is so much more than a whole lot of people making a whole lot of noise. It is one individual managing fifty different personalities, fifty dissimilar stages of life, fifty different struggles and issues that enter the choir stand regularly.” He certainly shared how gratifying it is to manage all of that but did not deny its weightiness. “Egos present challenges and there always seems to be one person who wants to make it about them even though they are a part of the group. Lack of loyalty and flakiness presents challenges as well, but egos are by far the biggest distraction.” January 2025

One of my least favorite moments as a Choir Director happened in 2015 when I started my own choir aside from the “Psalms Choir” at The City of Refuge Church under the leadership of Bishop Noel Jones. That really hurt as I saw energy dissipate from Psalms. I saw them hurt and I do not think I realized, at that moment, what I meant to them. Starting a choir in addition to Psalms was understandably interpreted as me giving up on them. I was not and it was painful. From the outside looking in, it was impossible to distinguish my need for growth from their feeling of desertion. That still goes down as one of my least favorite moments as a Choir Director. We are not perfect, we make mistakes, we are very human, and we do our best to be led by God all the time. I am not saying that I was not led by God during that moment, I am saying it was hard to break away from them. Those are my babies and like any parent or overseer, I care.” JAM gave us some great advice. We have called each other JAM ever since we scrambled our initials to illustrate a team effort we shared some time ago. “My advice is to join a choir and help us keep the choir alive. If you have a voice and you still want to sing for God and be the light in a dark world, please join a choir. If you want to start singing and you do not know where to begin, join the choir. If you want to develop your voice and develop the skill and the endurance and all the things that are necessary, join a choir. The best teaching, and lessons, and consistency and fellowship will be found in the choir.” When asked about upcoming projects, Jason revealed the anticipated release of his album which was recorded live on April 6th, his birthday. . We can anticipate the release of the single from his album titled “Another Tomorrow” at the top of 2025. He said, “The album deals with overcoming depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts through faith and through a practical relationship with God. The project was birthed from journaling, praying, talking to God, really seeking spiritual and natural health, and really watching God deliver me from these crippling thoughts and these crippling desires in my life.” Jason was honest in his admission of how trying the last half of the year was. “I have gotten really excited about my future. The responsibility as a Choir Director and the accountability for so many people can save your life. It has always been my driving force. To be entrusted with these souls that Heaven rejoices over when just one of them comes is a responsibility that I am honored to have. It is important to me.” As we wrapped it up, JAM said, “My message for people right now is this, ‘You are not alone’! We are in a season where everyone feels alone for so many reasons. We just had a crazy election, and we are going into the Holiday season, and I feel like people need to know they are not by themselves. There is somebody out there for you who will listen to you and love you.” I was honored to connect with the incomparable Jason McGee, one of God’s greatest creations out of Bakersfield, California. Follow him on social media and stand by for his new album “Another Tomorrow.” IG @iamjasonmcgee and @jmcgeeandchoir January 2025

Music & The Kingdom By Dr. Percy Bady
UNITY HAS A SOUND In the last 15-20yrs we have watched the dismissal of Choirs in the church liturgy experience. I did some research and here is what I found…In 1998 choirs were present in over half of all churches across the world. In a subsequent research I found that the percentage of participating choirs in the worship liturgy experience has decreased 12% in twenty years to just over 40% of all congregations. If the trends continue their downward trajectory, this number is likely to continue to fall. Why has this happened you may ask? Well I can’t speak for everyone but I do know some of our churches have moved to what we call praise teams. Smaller number of people and some would say better voices! (this can be argued). But this was not done out of necessity as much as it was done out of the copycat syndrome! We saw staple churches move to the praise team model and determined that it would work for your church. So you disband the choir…the faithful organization that included not just the better singers, but singers who weren’t considered the best but could sing their parts well enough to deliver an authentic experience to the congregation. They were the most faithful; always on time, supported the choir and church in all of its endeavors! Job 38:6-7 Describes the original choir of angels (stars) singing as God created the universe. 2 Chronicles 20:21-23: Describes a choir dressed in holy robes who marched ahead of troops singing "Give thanks to GOD, His love never quits" 2 Chronicles 5:13: Describes a choir and trumpets singing and playing in praise to God. Nehemiah 12: Describes Nehemiah gathering the Levites, priests, and singers to lead the people in worship. The Bible clearly indicates that we will join the angels in singing God's praise throughout eternity in Revelation 15:3 See, the choir represents what heaven looks and sounds like. Many diverse voices, ages, nationalities lifting up their voices to the king of kings singing “ Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.” Rev 15:3 January 2025

We must Bring Back The Choir as it strictly has its origins in the gospel. The declaration made in the Psalms “Sing Unto The Lord” was made to the entire body of the church & not just a select group of singers based upon their ability to do riffs etc. Doing anything simply because you see someone else doing it is a sure sign of lack of spiritual depth. The choir has long been the anchor, the soundtrack of the church! Long before instruments, lights, cameras, drapes and stages. All we had was our voices! And when those voices joined together to make one sound, you could shake a room Corporately making melody to the Lord! I’ve heard the excuse that nobody is making choir music anymore…although I do believe that the choir is underserved as it relates to having songs that lend themselves to a choir presentation, there is a large existing catalog of choral music that is STILL relevant to the christian experience. Yes it may have been recorded 20-30 years ago! But that’s where creativity should kick in to develop new arrangements that will speak in this day and time. The goal is to get us back singing together! And the choir is a great place to do this! Another reason the choir is important to the worship experience is that they create community. Community with each other, the congregants and leadership. I remember my very first friend I met in the children’s choir and still this day we are the best of friends. The choir was where you learned to have relationships,to care, to pray. You learned discipline! The same discipline that we apply in other areas of our lives as well. The Choir was also the place you experienced love… not the superficial love, but the kind of love that God requires of all of us. Agape love…The kind of love that says I haven’t seen you in a while. I was a little bit concerned, are you OK? Yes this sounds pretty simple and basic but you must understand that this is how we built relationships. This is how we built unity and UNITY HAS A SOUND ! The kinda sound that shakes rooms, changes atmospheres & loosens strongholds. In closing let us not forget the power & voice of the choir within our worship experience! After all one day we will all be a part of the most important choir ever assembled; The heavenly choir that will join in with the angels singing “Holy Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty! - Dr Percy Bady

You Are Enough: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome and Embracing Your Worth It was a typical weekday for Renae. The alarm buzzed at 5:30 a.m., pulling her from a restless sleep into the reality of another busy day. Before her feet even touched the floor, the weight of a never-ending to-do list flooded her mind like a relentless tide, each task crashing against her inner peace. Emails to send. Meetings to lead. Deadlines to meet. Appearances to keep. Renae moved through her morning routine like a machine, her mind already in overdrive. The world saw her as a high achiever—she was beautiful, driven, successful, and unstoppable. But what the world didn’t see was the overwhelming exhaustion lurking beneath the surface. Despite a full night’s sleep, Renae had become an expert at hiding her mental, emotional and spiritual exhaustion behind a polished exterior. She showed up to events she loathed, forced smiles that were rehearsed and navigated office politics with a grace that was nothing short of fake. She collected academic degrees, certifications, promotions, and public accolades hoping they would silence the voice in her head that whispered these loud words to her mind and spirit: "YOUR’RE STILL NOT ENOUGH." Every day, she ignored her own needs, masked her physical and mental fatigue, and denied herself the luxury of vulnerability. When asked how she was doing, her response was automatic: "I’m fine." But she wasn’t fine. She was tired of pretending, tired of proving, tired of fighting to justify her place in a world that should already recognize her worth. And yet, the fear lingered. "WHAT IF THEY SEE THROUGH ME? WHAT IF THEY REALIZE I’M NOT AS CAPABLE AS THEY THINK? WHAT IF I FAIL?"

This is the silent, invisible burden of IMPOSTER SYNDROME—the belief that despite your accomplishments, you are an imposter, a fraud, one misstep away from being exposed. Though imposter syndrome is not a clinical diagnosis, it’s a burden carried by countless high-achieving men and women who navigate spaces they’ve rightfully earned but constantly feel like they don’t belong. Renae could easily be named Richard, Carley or Kyle. Renae could also be your teenage daughter or son who is an accomplished athlete but persistently questions and doubts their value despite excelling in their respective sport. Imposter syndrome is not tied to an agegroup, gender, socioeconomic class, ethnicity or profession but it is tied to a mindset. It is also experienced increasingly among minority groups due to the impact of racism, discrimination and microaggressions. Countless numbers of people wake up every day feeling like frauds, convinced they don’t deserve their success despite their amazing gifts, talents, contributions and blaring success. So how do you know if you or someone you know may be suffering from imposter syndrome or potentially at risk for imposter syndrome? Well, I’m so glad you asked. 1.Are You a Perfectionist? ·Does your motto sound like, “Anything less than perfect is failure?”’ Remember, while striving for excellence isn’t all bad, perfectionism can make you feel like nothing is ever “good enough.” 2.Do You Struggle with Low Self-Esteem? ·Do you constantly second-guess yourself or downplay your accomplishments, even when others praise you? Remember- Low self-esteem creates fertile ground for imposter syndrome to thrive. 3.Are You Obsessed with Achievement? ·Are you driven by an endless need to do more and be more or do you feel constant pressure to maintain your success, even when it’s exhausting? Remember -High achievers often feel like they’re one step away from being “found out.” 4.Family Matters ·Did you ever experience unrealistic expectations from your parents? ·Did you ever feel valued only for what you accomplished, not for who you were? ·Were you frequently compared to siblings or peers growing up? Answering “yes” to these questions can be a precursor to making self-doubt a lifelong companion. 5.Social and Cultural Pressures Sometimes, the world around us doesn’t make it easy to feel like we belong. ·Being a minority or “the only one” in your field (gender, race, ethnicity) can intensify feelings of inadequacy. Starting a new job, entering a competitive program, or taking on a new role can amplify selfdoubt. January 2025

The cost of Imposter Syndrome can be excessive not only costing you mental stress, anxiety and burnout but it can also cause missed opportunities preventing individuals from fully maximizing their potential. Begin Embracing Your Worth These are some things you can do to mentally shift from feeling like an imposter to embracing your value and worth. ·Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with affirmations of worth and competence. ·Keep a “success journal” to remind yourself of your achievements. ·Seek mentorship and surround yourself with people who affirm your value. ·Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Recognize that growth and learning are part of the journey. ·Name It: Acknowledge when you are experiencing imposter feelings. ·Talk About It: Share your experiences with trusted friends or mentors. ·Challenge Comparison: Focus on your unique journey rather than comparing yourself to others. ·Accept Compliments: Practice saying “thank you” without deflecting or diminishing your achievements. Homework: Your Daily Confidence Boost Whether you believe it or not, you are AMAZING…I didn’t say perfect! So, here are two powerful affirmations that I hope will kick imposter syndrome to the curb and remind you every day of just how amazing you are: "I am inherently worthy, valuable, and enough, just as I am. My presence brings light and purpose to the world!"
"I honor my unique gifts and embrace my divine purpose. I am deserving of love, success, and joy in all areas of my life!" Say these affirmations out loud. Feel the words sink in. Because you, my friend, are enough. Now go conquer your day with all the confidence you deserve! You are NOT an IMPOSTER… You and I are “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10. Take a moment today to write down three things you’re proud of. Remind yourself—you are enough. Blessings To You, Dr. Jewyl January 2025

The 21st Century has brought a shift in what is considered the norm for gender ascribed and achieved roles. A visible platform has been set for all the world to see the elevation and evolution of women in every arena from the local level to the global, especially in the Church World. Culture is not what it used to be and when culture changes our norms change. If you understand the times in which we live then you will understand that today's culture is not going to accept anything less than a progression for women. It is an age old debate concerning women in the pulpit but if you look at the definition of pulpit (a raised platform or lectern in a church sanctuary or chapel from which the preacher delivers a sermon), truth be told I don't think it's about women being in the pulpit preaching, teaching or praying because those things can be done anywhere in or outside of the church sanctuary but it's what standing in the pulpit represents: 1. A Men's only club. It has been a male dominated field until now. 2. It is a place where the voice of one can influence and impact generations. 3. It is a place of power spiritually and naturally 4. It's a place where one can attain Prominence, Prestige and Profit 5. It is a place where we draw people to God For years women have been relegated to positions in the church that didn't rock the status quo or go against the stereotype that women were not to operate in certain capacities in the church . Far too long we've operated in undercover titles that hid our calling and abilities that operated on the same level as our brethren we just went along to get along. Not now. The doors are opening, old stereotypes are being challenged, mindsets are expanding and all the Glory goes to God. What we are used to seeing and what we are now seeing is a changing of the guards and elevation of new Generals that include women .If you change the way you look at things, things will change the way they look. Let’s Make Some Lasagna Rolls The holidays have come to a close, and after weeks of feasting on dressing and turkey, your palate craves something fresh and exciting. Aunty’s macaroni and cheese was delightful, Cousin’s yams were spectacular, and let’s not forget Ray Ray’s green bean casserole! Each dish was a hit during the festivities and may have even added a few pounds to your waistline. But now that the new year is here, it’s time to make some changes. Our taste buds are ready for a new adventure! Let’s get creative in the kitchen! This recipe may not be the lightest option, but it’s definitely a delightful departure from the holiday staples and will bring smiles to everyone at the dining table. I made this dish for my mom, and it has quickly become her favorite! So, let’s dive into making some delicious lasagna rolls. Ingredients Needed: Chicken Spinach Onions Alfredo sauce Three types of cheese Cream cheese Lasagna noodles Spices
Meal Preparation: Boil your lasagna noodles until all done. Season and bake your chicken, then chop it into bite-sized pieces. Dice two onions. Wash and chop fresh spinach. If you didn’t buy pre-shredded cheese, shred your cheese now. In a bowl, mix the chopped chicken, spinach, cheeses, onions, and spices to taste. You can make your alfredo sauce from scratch, or take a shortcut by buying pre-made sauce and enhancing it with fresh garlic and your favorite spices. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). January 2025
36
Assembly Instructions: ·Spread a thin layer of alfredo sauce on the bottom of your baking dish. ·Lay a lasagna noodle flat on a surface and spread a generous layer of the mixed ingredients on top. ·Roll the noodle up tightly and place it seam-side down in the pan. ·Repeat this process until the pan is filled. ·Spread the remaining cheeses, and ingredients over the rolls ·Pour all of the remaining alfredo sauce over the top. ·Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 20-30 minutes. Serve these delightful lasagna rolls alongside a fresh salad, and watch as your family enjoys this new twist on a classic dish. This recipe is also incredibly versatile; you can easily adapt it for seafood or vegan options. I’ve made it with salmon, shrimp, and crab meat, and it was divine! For my vegan friends, simply use all vegetables, vegan noodles, and plant-based ingredients. As you embark on your culinary adventures this new year, I’d love to hear about your experiences! Share your photos and stories, and let me know how it turned out for you and your loved ones. Happy cooking!

Relationships Pt 2 The Crucial Role of Communication in Relationships Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. It builds trust, fosters understanding, and helps navigate through the complexities of human emotions. In an era where digital interactions often replace face-to-face conversations, the importance of clear and honest communication cannot be overstated. For anyone who has been away from the dating scene, it’s essential to recognize that things have changed significantly. Dating in the modern world comes with its own set of challenges and nuances. However, the fundamental principles of communication remain the same. If you meet someone and both of you are excited about the possibility of a relationship, pay close attention to what is being communicated. Let them speak freely without interrupting them, but should you have questions, ask!
The Art of Listening One of the most common pitfalls in early conversations is hearing what we want to hear instead of what is actually being said. For example, a man could be sitting directly across from you, stating phrases like "situationship" or "not ready for a relationship but willing to see where this may go." If you listen carefully, you will understand exactly what he means and hear exactly what he is saying. However, if you choose to interpret these words through the lens of your desires, you might hear the opposite, like the possibility of changing his mind with the illusion that YOU are the one who could make him feel differently. This selective hearing can lead to significant heartache and heartbreak. When a person tells you they are not ready for a relationship, it should be taken at face value. This doesn’t translate to an opportunity to sway them into wanting a relationship with you. Misinterpreting these words often leads to disappointment. Many people fall into the trap of getting caught up in looks and charisma, missing other crucial signs. This is why communication is so vital for everyone involved. January 2025
38
Building Clarity While someone is sharing their feelings, they are also observing and listening to your responses. If you respect what they are saying, you both gain clarity on moving forward. However, if you disregard their words and are determined to conquer this new conquest, the road ahead will likely be filled with bumps and challenges. Ultimately, communication is key to establishing a mutual understanding and setting the right expectations.
Intentional Conversations Setting aside intentional time just to talk is essential. Discuss your faith, family, values, morals, and beliefs. Ask questions about how they view relationships and be honest and upfront with your opinions. If you start pretending to be someone you are not at the beginning of a relationship, you will find it increasingly difficult to maintain that facade. Authenticity is crucial. Be real, be honest, and be clear.
Understanding and Respect Effective communication involves both expressing yourself and understanding others. When a person shares their feelings or concerns, it’s important to respect their perspective, even if it differs from yours. This mutual respect lays the foundation for a healthy relationship. Clear communication helps identify whether there is a genuine possibility of moving forward or if there are red flags that you should heed.
The Impact of Miscommunication Miscommunication can create unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings. When people are not clear about their intentions, it leads to confusion and mixed signals. For example, if one partner expresses the need for personal space and the other interprets it as rejection, it can cause unnecessary strain on the relationship. Understanding and respecting each other’s needs and boundaries is essential for a harmonious relationship.

The Role of Technology In today’s digital age, technology plays a significant role in how we communicate. Text messages, social media, and video calls are convenient but can sometimes lead to misinterpretations. Tone and context can easily be misunderstood in written communication. It’s important to have face-to-face conversations, whether in person or via video calls, to ensure clear and effective communication.
Continuous Effort Building and maintaining effective communication requires continuous effort. It’s not a onetime task but an ongoing process. Regular check-ins and open conversations help keep the relationship healthy and vibrant. It also helps in resolving issues before they become major problems.
Conclusion Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship. It fosters trust, understanding, and respect. By being open, honest, and clear in your interactions, you can build a strong foundation for a lasting relationship. Remember, the goal is to understand and be understood. When both partners are committed to effective communication, it paves the way for a fulfilling and harmonious relationship. So, embrace the power of communication and let it guide you towards building deeper and more meaningful connections. What happens next? In the next issue of GI - The Power of Relationship.

Getting Your Financial House in Order: How Biblical Principles and Accounting Systems Can Streamline How You Manage Your Company’s Finances
God cares about how we run and manage our businesses. He has often given us the blueprint to lay the foundation for our success. As we build and manage our businesses, one telltale sign (or indicator) that we have our house in order is how we organize and manage our finances. Both biblical and accounting principles are centered around ethics. Stewardship, accountability, and integrity are common grounds in both areas. For example, Proverbs 10:9 addresses how those who walk in integrity walk securely. Proverbs 11:1 addresses how the Lord hates cheating but delights in honesty. As Christians, ethics are integral to our personal lives and to our businesses. Financial reporting is a display of our operational activities and our management abilities. The word of God governs biblical ethics, whereas the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) regulates ethics in accounting through its code of Professional Conduct. That means our finances must be accurate and recorded according to their standards. Although accounting tends to play second fiddle compared to the operational areas of our business, business owners must find ways to maintain their accounting records while running other parts of their business as well. In this article, we will address how to keep our financial house in order by maintaining Godly values and good financial records. Our financial records reflect how we run our business, which should align with how we honor God. Setting Up an Accounting System Setting up an accounting system involves tools and systems. From gathering and analyzing source data (such as invoices, bank statements, receipts, purchase orders, bills, deposit slips, and contract agreements, etc.) to accurately documenting the data in the proper accounts within your accounting software program (Accounts such as assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, cost of goods sold, and expense accounts). Organizing Accounting Tasks Organizing accounting tasks into groups by performing tasks daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually is an excellent approach for setting up a routine accounting system. The following is an example: Daily Tasks – Analyze, organize, and journalize financial documents and post them into one of the six accounts (mentioned above) on a daily basis. Monitor all of your cash account(s) each day. Weekly Tasks: Process the payables (pay the bills), employee timecards, and payroll, if applicable. Monitor the accounts receivables aging report and flag customers with outstanding accounts. Monthly Tasks – Reconcile the bank statements, credit card statements, PayPal accounts, and other types of bank accounts. Pay any payroll taxes withheld from employees’ paychecks. Pay any sales or estimated taxes (Note: the due date could be monthly, quarterly, or annually). Run and review monthly reports (such as payables and receivables aging reports, commissions and reimbursable expense reports, etc.). Prepare and review financial statements. Identify high and poor-performing revenue items. Run variance reports. Compare the actual financial performance to the budget, noting whether you are operating under or over budget, and adjust accordingly. Quarterly Tasks – Pay quarterly payroll, sales, estimated, and local or other taxes. Run financial reports for the quarter. Make a note of the top and the poorest performing accounts. Run a quarterly variance report to see whether you are operating within budget for the quarter. If you take care of your own accounting, consider meeting with your accountant or CPA quarterly. Annual Tasks – Finalize and run annual year-end reports, including financial statements and comparative yearly reports. File income taxes, file IRS Form 1098 and Copy A of the 1099 Forms. Issue Copy B of Form 1099 to eligible vendors and independent contractors. File annual payroll taxes. Confirm any new rate changes, such as mileage rate changes, changes in the FICA tax rates, changes to the social security wage base, and changes to the per diem rates (which generally change before the end of the year). Non-profit organizations need to prepare and issue annual contribution letters to donors. Have auditors perform any required yearly audits. January 2025
42
Following this or a similar system allows complete transparency. Errors can be identified, and adjustments can be made accordingly.
Accounting Tools to Help Streamline Your Day-to-Day Activities Many accounting tools can be used to help streamline your day-to-day activities, including the following: Accounting software packages, such as QuickBooks, Xero, Freshbooks, and more. Expense management tools such as Expensify and Divvy Payroll solutions such as Paychex, ADP, and Gusto Automation and Integration tools such as Zapier, Hubdoc Analytics and reporting tools, such as Fathom and Spotlight Reporting These tools can save time, reduce errors, and improve financial clarity. To conclude, aligning financial practices with biblical principles can help Christian business owners make ethical decisions that reflect their faith while honoring Christ. The next issue of Gospel International will discuss more ways to integrate accounting strategies into your business.
