around the theme of natural and artificial form. I am eager to integrate people’s living and working environment into nature. I look for inspiration in the natural form, but this is not simply to imitate nature, but to refine and analyze it, and to re express it in the language of modern design so as to reach a state of unity between man and nature.

The 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing. Beijing needs a park to promote sports spirit and provide amateur winter sports for people. The site is located in the east of the South Park of the Beijing Olympic Forest Park, echoing the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics main gymnasium - China National Speed Skating Gymnasium, forming a complete theme facilities circle for the Winter Olympics. The Olympic Forest Park is located in the north end of Beijing’s central axis, and its design concept is “the axis leading to nature. After the Olympic Games, in order to promote the use of Olympic venues and facilities, it has become a city park providing leisure and entertainment for the citizens. The design is an affiliated leisure and sports park of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Although Beijing has hosted the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and has relatively complete supporting facilities and places for the summer Olympic Games, it lacks facilities and places related to the Winter Olympic Games and winter sports. The design project, as a supporting leisure park for 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, is expected to not only further improve the supporting infrastructure construction for the Winter Olympic Games and play a role in promoting the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, but also provide the masses with a close contact and participation in the Winter Olympic Games, as well as a sports ground for citizens to exercise in the winter.

The main body of the project is made up of a number of special-shaped buildings, symbolizing that the five Olympic rings are intertwined and heart to heart. The outline of the building is similar to the beautiful curve of the snow mountain, very dynamic. The roof design mimics the natural ridge and the traditional Chinese sloping roof type residence, which is the same, very beautiful. The main body of the building, like white silk, lies across the site and becomes the activity center of the whole park. The design concept contains not only the cultural elements of the Olympic Games, but also the dynamic elements of sports. The treatment of the roof interprets the characteristics of the sloping roofs of ancient Chinese buildings, rich in regional characteristics. The overall appearance of the building is well integrated into the site as contrasted with the fragrant hills in the distance.

| The Field | The site used to be the southeast part of the Olympic Forest Park. There are two different waterways in the plot. How to use the water surface as the main site of winter sports is a problem to be solved.

| Nature | At the same time, it further subdivides the functional blocks, and starts to consider how to design the main site and what is the relationship with the surrounding areas.

| Circulation and Conversion | The two waterways are connected to each other to correct the unreasonable height difference of the site, and then increase the ice produced in winter. Provide winter ice sports ground.

| Mutual Fusion | Design the site streamline, design multi-level landscape roads around the main site, and further refine the functional zoning and site level changes.

| ‘The Five Continent’ | According to the functional requirements, the land will be further divided to form five venues symbolizing the Olympic rings. At the same time, the edge of the site shall be trimmed to remove the interference of the original site height difference.

| ‘Mountain and Snow’ | The concept of mountain and snow is added to the body block generation of the main building. The whole building and even the function and streamline of the site are combined by the twisted and inserted body blocks.

| Addition and Subtraction | Subtracting the main plot, a large area of ice is formed in the southwest of the site as an entertainment ice sports ground. A figure skating performance venue is set up in the middle part, which is connected by a strip ice track.

| ‘Ice Silk’ | The streamline of the whole site is connected by free curve, and the architecture, landscape and interior are organically integrated. The structure is interwoven on the site like a ribbon.

The main body of the architecture is like white silk, lying in the site, becoming the activity center of the whole park. The whole architecture facade is composed of continuous curves of different dimensions, which are compared with Xiangshan Mountain in the distance. At the same time, the dynamic curve increases the vitality of the building and echoes the Olympic spirit. With the sinking design method, the visual height of the building can be reduced and the building can be better integrated into the site.

Landscape Design of the Park

The landscape design of the park also adopts the non-linear multi-level and three-dimensional design method to create a more interesting borderless landscape. It creatively combines the landscape road and architecture to make the whole park more hierarchical and convenient for tourists to visit. Not only that, the landscape construction of staggered floor height difference, combined with the main building, can create a kind of landscape experience.

Rendering of Architectural Facade

Indoor Speed Skating Gymnasium of the Main Building

Rendering of Viewing Platform

The main body of the building carries indoor figure skating, curling and other indoor ice sports, as well as sales around the sports and exhibition space for winter sports. Indoor speed skating field is an important part of it. It has a standard speed skating field of 30mx60m. The southwest side of the site has a stand for people to rest and watch. The stand can be connected with the external floor.

The facade of the architecture is made of aluminum. This kind of material can not only meet the strength requirements of the building, but also have enough plasticity to meet the continuous surface modeling of the building exterior. While keeping the whole simple curve, its facade has rich and ingenious details. The design inspiration comes from the traces left by the skate blade after sliding over the ice, which is full of dynamic rhythm.

The whole space plane presents irregular ellipse. The whole site is supported by a special-shaped frame. The supporting structure of the building with parametric auxiliary design presents a dynamic curve, which can well fit the theme of the movement, and at the same time, it is unified with the whole architectural style.

The southernmost part of the building is a broad viewing platform for tourists to eat, rest, sightseeing, etc. This part adopts the outstanding design method, people are in the middle, as if they are on the lake. In winter, visitors can watch the open-air figure skating performance on the frozen lake, or look at the surrounding snow scene. In summer, tourists can see boats chasing each other on the lake, with a broad vision. In addition, this part is also an important part of the three-dimensional streamline of the park. It is connected with the elevated escalator at the entrance to the South and can reach the viewing platform directly. To the north, it connects the main flow lines inside the building.

Partial Perspective of the Hall Interior design is the extension and sublimation of external characteristics. When you step inside, you are immersed in a world of ice and snow. The interior design also adopts the same design language of architecture and landscape in order to create a more dynamic flowing space. The interior decoration adopts a minimalist style, and the architectural structure is the carrier of interior decoration, showing a new attempt to integrate the surface, structure and interior of the nonlinear architecture.

Through analysis, Tsinghua University, as an engineering college, has a large number of outdoor sports venues for students, but it lacks complementary indoor activities and art space. The plan envisages the design of a covered landscape architecture to meet the functional requirements and maintain the plant coverage of the original site.

Tsinghua university student art activity center takes the spirit of “harmony between man and nature” embodied in Chinese landscape. At the same time of satisfying the use function, it pays attention to the visitors’ experience of the surrounding environment and the building itself. As the integration of organism and nature, architecture is between architecture, landscape, topography and sculpture. The roof is covered by green plants and the earth, which challenges the boundary and sense of scale between traditional landscape and architecture. Both natural and surreal.

Diagram of the Formation of Architectural Form | SITE | The site is a triangular plot composed of canteen area in the East, lover slope green space in the South and student dormitory area in the West. The design needs to deal with the harmony between the site and its surroundings. | FUNCTION | There is no artistic functional field in the central area where the activities of Tsinghua students are most intensive. Two storey student art center can be built on the site | DOWN |

| SITE |

| FUNCTION |

| DOWN |

The first floor of the building is buried underground to form a green covered architecture. Ecological, energy-saving, and to solve the building occupation of the original green contradictions.

| CUT | By subtracting the west part of the building, people can walk directly from the residential area to the green roof. This design optimize the accessibility of people, and consider the poor light in the West. | COMPROMISES | The green roof will be shaped into a more natural shape by integrating with the green land of lover slope in the south, so as to achieve the purpose of returning the hidden buildings to nature. | HOLE |

The large-scale cavity used in the preliminary design of the roof can not only solve the problem of building lighting, but also create a wonderful sense of light and create more spiritual feelings.

| LINES | The building and even the whole site are integrated to create a multiple streamline similar to the nature, which is full of interest. This design create the artistic conception of “present” and “hidden”. | LIGHT | Digital lighting analysis makes the lighting more reasonable. Winter can be in the roof activities, and hot summer can be indoor activities. Cool in winter and cool in summer | FINAL |

| FINAL |

Architecture presents a more natural form of land covering, which is also a response to the surrounding terrain and Chinese landscape. High and low, changing scene.

Diagram of Site and Architecture Plane According to the special triangular shape of the site and the local conditions, the building adopts the slope design method of imitating the nature, which can be echoed with theValentine’s slope on the opposite side. It can form a complete natural ecological environment in the center of the school and bring natural vitality to the noisy school. On the west side of the building is the student apartment area. Students can easily enter the rest area. The roof of the building is rising from west to East. In the east part, students can have a broader vision. To the East is a small river, as well as the school canteen and some office areas. In the east part, people can see the beautiful scenery of the river.

Ground Floor Plane

The interior of the building is made up of irregular special-shaped space, which breaks the partition of conventional building space and makes the whole interior space become a whole. Thus, the flow of people is enhanced and the building becomes more interesting and vital. Blur the boundary between sculpture and architectural form, increase more visual possibilities. At the same time, non-linear architectural design not only increases the richness of Xingtai, but also provides more interaction between people and architectural space. This design breaks the design method of traditional architecture.

As can be seen from the profile effect drawing, this art activity center is mainly divided into two floors. This landscape architecture is designed as a semi-subterranean cladding. While satisfying the needs of the exhibition space, it pays attention to visitors’ tour and cultural experience of the building itself, and also pays attention to the integration of the building itself as an organism and nature, evoking visitors’ memories of the rich and mysterious nature. The project is a cross between architecture, topography and sculpture, reshaping the relationship between natural ecology and functional architecture. The building challenges the traditional relationship between the roof and the ground, especially as the building space sinks below the ground level.

Analysis of Interior Space Curved & Surface | Winter | | Architecture Visualization of the Interior Space | The internal space of the building is connected with each other, without boundaries and full of artistic atmosphere. When you’re in this space, you’ll notice that every angle of the space is different. No need for unnecessary decoration, as the university’s art center, this space is a work of art. It has no boundary space that can give visitors more reverie.

Cave & Light The joints of the interior Spaces are made up of irregular continuous holes. Not only that, this design element is also a carrier for importing sunlight. Top openings of different sizes increase the lighting and interest of the space. We plant green plants under large openings, so as to obtain a richer level of plant landscape and increase the interaction between human and nature. Light and opening can produce wonderful visual reaction and bring people different spiritual feelings.

Pool & Mirror There is a huge opening in the middle of the building, with an irregular circular pool at the bottom. The pool reflects the sky like a mirror. At the same time, the pool can interact visually with the surrounding people and buildings. Due to its semi underground location, this space can provide a quiet environment for people to think about in the noisy campus.

This design hopes to create a new balance in technology, art and nature. With the latest design means and relatively low cost, it will construct an environmental protection type art activity center full of artistic creativity and combined with natural ecology. And hope to use this fuzzy traditional sense of the relationship between architecture, landscape, nature, sculpture, to explore a new integration.

Plant

In this design, we use soil, concrete and marble as the main materials of the building. With the help of digital design method, the earth excavated from the underground space is used to construct the undulation similar to the natural terrain on the surface, so as to connect with the earth and adapt to the surrounding environment. Green roof technology is adopted on the ground surface, which makes the vegetation grow more efficiently, so that the indoor, wall and roof (surface) of the building are covered with high vegetation. This kind of three-dimensional green layout can not only provide better building quality and air quality, but also combine with the building itself to form a covering building similar to a cave in the warm winter and cool summer.

The Tower of Time | The Skyscaper of History 2017 eVolo Competition Team Member: Qiu Song, Wang Ji, Zhang ruichang Team Work Dec.2016- Mar.2017 Location: All Over The World

Analysis of Structural Function | Side View of the Skyscraper |

The vast land gives birth to human civilization and engraves the history with profound stories. In order to reveal its mystery, archaeological research has been applied a lot to reproduce history. However, traditional museums can only exhibit archaeological excavations and results of archaeological research, but not demonstate process of history so as to make audiences get immersed to understand the process and exprience details of the exhibition. In addition, because the excavated cultural relics need to be repeatedly transported and transferred for exhibitions, security work has become extremely difficult. The purpose of this design is to satisfy people’s curiosity and demands to better understand the purpose of excavating, researching and exhibiting cultural heritages. Meanwhile, it also creates a better environment to protect and conduct research with the discovered cultural relics. ‘The Tower of Time’ is a comprehensive museum skyscaper intergrating heritage exploration, excavation, protection, research, exhibition, education and tourism, etc. This building is divided into two parts: the part on the ground and the underground part. The underground part is the building foundation with functions of exploring, excavating and exhibiting geological rocks, animal fossils and burial heritage. This part not only preserves exhibits in the original and stable environment, but also allows visitors to exprience process of relics excavation and the environment in which relics are preserved so as to know relevant geological and human heritage information. The part on the ground is designed for archaeological research and cultural relics exhibition and a sightseeing area with various research instituions, theme pavilions, theaters, catering, accommodation and leisure, etc. Construction materials for ‘The Tower of Time’ are excavated locally. Excessive earth of excavating underground relics are grounded and processed as the mian materials of constructing the building. And the entire building is built from the ground up and down at the same time.

STRUCTURAL PERSPECTIVE OF UNDERGROUND SECTION

Analysis of Structural Function ROOF PLATFORM Sightseeing ■ Roof Platform is designed for the helicoptor landing to transport good such as antiques. The structure of the outsurface of the top is designed for collecting rainwater. At the same time, the top of the building can be built through modular construction, which allows for growth. As time goes on, skyscrapers need to record more and more history, so they need to build higher and higher. This is a roof that can grow.

Hotel ■

ANT NEST Research ■ The ‘ant nest’ structure is very efficient building internal transport channel. This parameter epidermis is attached with green plants, which can increase plant coverage from multi dimensions, increasing the plant air pollution effect. These pipes are made up of standard modules, which can change their shape as needed. This design makes it easier to replace damaged pipes, and it can also reduce costs and increase efficiency.

ELEVATOR Exihibition ■ Excessive earth of excavating underground relics transferred by the elevator at the center of the building are grounded and processed as the main materials of constrcuting the building. The elevator system is mainly divided into freight and manned two parts, throughout the building. The elevator system is combined with the plumbing system to greatly improve the efficiency of the building.

Archaeology ■ Visit ■

SPIRAL CHANNEL Spiral channel and ‘tentacle shaped unit’ adopt transparent interactive glass for sightseeing to display the whole process of excavation in front of people so that they can better understand the work process of archaeological excation. The glass use more advanced technology and can resist the pressure from underground soil.

Analysis of Workflow of the Underground Part

Hominid Site | Archaeological Excavations |

| Geological Prospecting |

The first part of the building underground is the ‘Hominid Site’. Its scope is relatively shallow, and it preserves the remains of people and their lives at different times in the past. This part is the main part of the building underground, which can achieve the coexistence of historical sites and modern buildings. This design alleviates the conflict between the need to protect historic sites and the need for urban land.

THE TENTACLE SHAPED UNITS Fossil Paleontology The downward spiral is not only the path for people to access to the underground, but also the way that the Time Tower building extends downwards. Spiral channel extends to the periphery of a number of ‘tentacle shaped units’ to wrap up archaeological sites one by one for further excavation. The ‘tentacle shaped unit’ adopt transparent interactive glass for sightseeing to display the whole process of excavation in front of people so that they can be better undersatnd the work process of archaeological excation

The bottom part of the building underground is for researching ‘Fossil Paleontology’. This part of the fossil records the history of the earth and the animals and plants that lived in it. These fossils record the development of the earth. The building can be continuously extended down to get information of deeper underground.

It breaks through the supporting structure of traditional seats, thereby reducing weight, saving materials and achieving the combination of cost and aesthetics. Using the black walnut wood, which is commonly used in Chinese traditional furniture, as the main material and supplemented by the white fabric material. It also adopts the streamline design method of automobile body in industrial design. I think this is a good new Chinese style furniture, which is rich in the calm temperament of Chinese traditional furniture, as well as modern, dynamic and light.
