Why Buying Australian-Made is Worth the Money

Life is so expensive nowadays. It’s tempting to cut corners when we’re buying goods just to save a few extra dollars here and there. However, when it comes to buying Australian chocolate, that’s another matter altogether. As Aussies, it’s crucial for us to support our local and national businesses. However, sometimes it can be as though we are looking for all that wonderful Australian quality but at bargain basement ‘import’ prices. It’s true that our country has some of the highest wages in the world. Consequently, if you want to buy Aussie-made and handmade, it takes a great deal of ‘expensive’ labour to create it. We are lucky in Australia to earn around $200 a day on average. So, when you’re buying Australian chocolate, this needs to be factored into the equation. Our minimum casual wage is as much as 91 times the equivalent in many developing countries. Australian chocolate is often handmade, so the actual labour costs are more than half the cost of the product. Add this to the fact that Aussie labour packs and sells the end

products as well as everything else in between and you will see why our own goods from our own country tend to cost that bit more. Then there is sending the actual Australian chocolate out to stores and to customers. Sending parcels is expensive – especially when there is so much careful packing and packaging involved. So, you see that there is so much more than goes into higher-priced Aussie chocolate than you perhaps initially think. Maybe you are reading this and thinking that you don’t buy cheaper chocolates. You might buy store-brand Belgian chocolates or bigger brand chocolate bars. Those are great quality, right? Wrong. With all due respect to these companies, their ingredients will be of a lesser quality and a cheaper price than Australian chocolate. Also, the huge companies create machine-made chocs so labour costs are reduced. Many Australian chocolate businesses are just not big enough to fully compete with the big chains. In fact, lots of small business owners in the country make less money than their staff and end up reinvesting what they do have into their companies. As a country, we need to sit up and take notice of what is happening to our own people. We need to get it into our heads that we have to pay what Australian chocolate is worth. Let’s face it – if we won’t pay for our own Aussie-made chocolates, who will? We should be proudly supporting our country folk in any way we can whenever we are able. The bottom line is that quality Aussie-made chocolate products do actually cost money. They are made from the finest ingredients by Australian men and women who have responsibilities and families just like we do. We need to get behind them and to give them our unwavering support. When you buy Australian chocolates, you’re supporting our people as well as having the opportunity to enjoy some of the finest chocolate in the world today. Content Source
