The holidays are upon us once again, which means our schedules are packed with friends, gatherings, gifting, and travel. It may be a fun-filled season, but actually making the fun happen can be stressful. THE PERFECT GIFT

SPOTLIGHT ON: JOUER Fact: You’re never too old to play with makeup. (You just get better toys as you mature.) Jouer—which literally means “to play” in French— is one of our favorite beauty brands because the company appreciates that makeup is supposed to be fun. With the finest ingredients and clever packaging, each new lipstick or liner feels less about utility and more about discovery. New to Jouer? DO THE WAV E Notice anything familiar in this photo? No, we’re not talking about Kendall Jenner; we’re referring to the curling iron that’s transforming her straight hair into runway-ready curls.

Getty Images / Kevin Mazur

Celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa prepped Kendall—and all of her fellow Angel friends—for the year’s sexiest fashion show using her revolutionary rotating curling iron, the Beachwaver S1. Instead of the standard twisting and looping and tangling that you typically go through to get supermodel waves, the Beachwaver does the work for you with a motorized barrel that rotates in both directions. Go ahead. Take it out for a spin.

SARAH POTEMPA’S BEACHWAVER TIPS 1. Start each curl with the Beachwaver clamp facing you. Press the arrow away from your face to create a curl that frames your face.

2. For longer-lasting curls, prep hair with mousse, and finish with hairspray or texturizing spray.

3. To maintain curls overnight, twist hair away from your face into 3 to 4 buns.

CITIES It’s the best of times...and the worst of times. As you pack for holiday travel, you’re inevitably left questioning which—if any—of your clothes will make sense when you arrive at your destination. While individual cities have their own personalities and dress codes, there are plenty of smart ways to style your favorite pieces in different zip codes.

JACHS, Black Plaid Button Down JACHS, Red Plaid Button Down REMI & REID, Drawstring Bag WADE & BELLE, Tights A.V. MAX, Caged Ring SOKO, Double Bar Ring

AUSTIN:

The Texas capital prides itself for keeping it “weird”; what better way to celebrate that passion for individuality than with a novel twist on the classic flannel shirt? Think outside the sartorial box by mixing prints...and wearing a plaid button-down as a grunge-inspired skirt.

BOSTON: Beantown is wicked cold this time of year, so you’ll appreciate extra warmth in weighty fabrics like flannel. Dress up your casual shirt for a night on the town with a faux leather skirt, heeled boots, and lots of layered necklaces.

MARC NEW YORK BY ANDREW MARC, Dress JESSICA ELLIOT, Highland Cuff ELLA, 3 Layer Chain Necklace

ATLANTA: How do you make an LBD stand out in a crowd? With accessories, of course. Crown yourself queen of the style set by repurposing a long necklace as a make-shift tiara. (Don’t forget to secure it with bobby pins!)

CHICAGO: Layer office-appropriate pieces

like a draped cardigan, tights, and boots with your party dress. No one will be the wiser to your frock’s thrill-seeking ways.

NEW YORK: Pair a fringe knit with vegan leather skinnies and fur—you’re ready to see and be seen. Need extra warmth? With a few strategically-placed safety pins, you can wear a faux fur scarf as a ushanka.

PORTLAND: From breakfast at Mother’s to a hike at Tryon Creek, a sweater and snow boots can be your unofficial winter uniform.

On the West Coast, the party never has to end. Tone down your holiday separates with casual basics. Suddenly, that sparkle skirt has a new life at brunch.

LOS ANGELES:

ST. LOUIS: Shine on in easy, party-ready separates. Between the shimmery skirt and the high-neck top, you won’t need many accessories. Stick to a simple cluster of bangles.

meet TIENLYN

By day, Joyus fashion expert Tienlyn Jacobson juggles roles as a blogger, model, and stylist, but this busy host has a few hidden talents as well. Tienlyn says if she didn’t work in fashion, she would probably be working in fitness or nutrition. “I’ve been studying beauty through wellness for a few years now, focusing a lot on fitness, natural ingredients, and diet.” Tienlyn’s other passion? Interior design.“My husband and I renovated our home in Palo Alto, and we are just finishing our place in Joshua Tree. We are already looking for our next project!” For more fashion inspiration from Tienlyn, check out her blog, Thoughtful Misfit, or follow her on Instagram.

POP QUIZ

What 5 items should every woman have in her winter wardrobe?

1. Turtleneck. It’s the ultimate layering piece. Wear it underneath a sleeveless dress, under a button up, under a sweater, or just on its own. It always looks chic.

2. Tights. Yes, they will keep you warm, but I love tights because they allow you to wear any length of skirt straight through winter. Plus, they look great with knee-high boots.

3. Button up shirt. Another great layering piece. Wear it over a tank top or a turtleneck, or on its own. Plaid is a great look for fall or winter, but I also love a chambray.

4. Thick cable knit. This texture is so big for winter and it looks luxe with whatever you pair it with.

5.. Miniskirt. This is my winter wildcard. Remember those tights I mentioned? They make a miniskirt appropriate for any sitution!

REASONS TO PACK A

PONCHO It’s the hottest trend of the season...and the most comfortable

1.

Fa-fa-fa-fashion. The poncho is everywhere. Every runway, every style star, every magazine.

2.

It’s the most forgiving silhouette.

The poncho will never tell when you don’t have time to hit the gym.

3.

Versatility. You can throw it on over a dress, or wear it with your

favorite skinny jeans.

4. No sleeves! Less bulk on your arms

makes it easier to navigate security and baggage claim while you travel.

5.

It doubles as a blanket. No more sandpaper throws

6.

Drama! There’s

no better way to make an entrance than to sashay into a room with a poncho swirling around you.

The stress-free guide to

HOLIDAY ENTERTAINING So you want to bring your friends together for the holidays, but you don’t have the time—or resources—to go full-on Martha? No problem! Joyus bon vivant Corbin Eilander is sharing his holiday party tips.

Skip the cocktail party. Host a brunch. Evening social calendars fill quickly during December, but Saturday

and

Sunday

mornings are wide open. Consider brunch as an alternative to a late night party. After all, everyone loves pancakes‌

You don’t need napkin rings to finish a place setting. Use ornaments or pinecones instead!

Streamline your tablescape. Chargers and plates and glasses and candlesticks and flowers‌ where does it end? Instead of setting all the things on your tabletop, focus on a few special details, like unique serving pieces, candles, and seasonal accents.

Raid your closet for texture. Cashmere, fur and chunky knits add visual warmth to a room, but you don’t have to rely solely on home textiles to achieve the look. Toss a scarf or wrap under a tray or over a chair to add dimension.

Night, lights. Bathe your home in a warm, holiday glow. Decorative candles are the easiest way to set the mood for an evening party. Mixing fragrances can be tricky. Opt for gorgeous, unscented pillars.

Corbin’s

merryMULE

Classic copper moscow mule cups will add a pop of metallic color to your party. Dress up the drink for the holidays with brightly-colored pomegranate seeds.

I NGR EDI E N TS : 2 oz. vodka 4 to 6 ounces ginger beer 1 oz. fresh lime juice 1 lime wedge Pomegranate seeds for garnish

Combine vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker; fill shaker with ice. Shake until outside of shaker is nice and frosty. Strain into a Moscow Mule mug with ice; garnish with pomegranate seeds.
