DURHAM TOWERS
01 The Durham Towers are proposed to be located in Downtown Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. They are a 10 Storey wood LVL and CLT construction, pushing the mid size towers to adopt wood construction. They are located alongside the proposed Elgin Greenway running through the downtown, depicted in green on the following page. The black areas are existing infrastructure and buildings, the red area is the proposed site.

PROJECTS
DURHAM TOWERS
The building is a proposed 10 Storey residential suite with 1st floor retail including a art/book store and cafe. The south building contains a warm up shelter with an economy kitchen serving the sudbury homeless community with showers and facilities to freshen up. With homelessness being an issue that needs to be addressed, the Durham towers would assist in this effort to the community. The form has pushes and pulls that shape the exterior facade of the building. There are also 3 main voids within the form that act as points of interest.

The full height section shows the method of how architectural elements would connect together. The structure is comprised of Glulam beams running in the horizontal direction and Glulam columns running vertically.

ORE MINERAL MARKET
The Ore Mineral Market is located in Copper Cliff in the Sudbury area. The building is a proposed market place shop where minerals and ore are sold to the public. Minerals are displayed as a museum where you can see the ore up close. The main structure is the same dimensions but with the interior redesigned to the new function of the building. A seating area is situated on the corner which happens to be a bus stop. The exterior metal skin provides an aesthetic as well as shading benefits.

ART GALLERY
03 The proposed art gallery is located in Downtown Sudbury. This is a 3rd year studio project at Laurentian. The site plan shows information such as the direction of traffic, contours, level changes, and the names of the surrounding buildings. This site is for a proposed art gallery, which would hold a permanent collection as well as a temporary collection. The design of the form is influenced by the study of pedestrian traffic throught the existing site and how people cut through it. There are multiple terraces which reflect the rising hill accross the street at Christ the King church.

MARS 3142
07 Mars 3142 is a 4th year project in Architectural Communications. The drawing was created using Rhino and Photoshop. The series is about a refuge on mars which must withstand an attack from alien creatures. It is based off of the story of Helms Deep from The Lord of the Rings. The project was to reinterperate the story and be inspired from it to create a series of graphic images. The main structure is a hidden refuge within the mountain with a main defence wall coined “the helm, this is where the marines would make their last stand. The refuge in the heart of the mountain has enormous sky shafts that penetrate the mountain and bring in the red martian light into the main hall.

BIRCH BARK CANOE
10 The Birch Bark Canoe is a 2nd year studio project that was led by Elder Marcel Labelle. He guided us in teachings and techniques to crafting the canoe from the forest into a vessel, which was then gifted to the McEwen family whom are the benifactors for the McEwen School of Architecture. It was a group effort that lasted a semester working together to acheive the hand crafted Birch Bark Canoe. With a new understanding of the properties of wood and the products of the forest. Each part of the canoe serves a function and there is a step by step process to building it. There is a deeper connection to mother nature and to the people who helped build it. The canoe has a spirit just like anything else and was crafted by human hands.
