Explorers Club ALISON SAUNDERS (HEADTEACHER) RACHEL KIRK (VICE-PRINCIPAL FROM SEPTEMBER 2019)
Aims of this meeting To share the principles behind designing extra-curricular provision To explain current plans To seek parental feedback and respond to queries
Why extra-curricular provision? 1) To enrich the curriculum https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/my-activity-passport https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/50-things-to-do-before-youre-11-activity-list
Parents’ views so far…. ‘I believe that these kind of extra-curricular offers with such a diverse range of activities will be of exceptional benefit to the children’s development’ ‘We are all very excited to hear of a more suitable wrap around provision for our KS2 children and we are grateful for the effort which has gone into making this a possibility’ ‘Support for homework would be really welcomed’ ‘A more structured after school activity each day would be really beneficial’ ‘I can see lots of benefits to this arrangement, particularly access to more regular activities after school that are currently very limited given the club sizes’ ‘We fully support this as a proposal’ Also: lots of ideas for other activities, which have been really helpful – thank you!
Why extra-curricular provision? 2) To develop students’ skills in particular areas Music Sports Language learning Strategic thinking and social skills (board games, including chess) Creative arts What else?
Why extra-curricular provision? 3) Flexible, affordable support for children and parents Pick-up from 4.45pm (following timetabled activity) To include reading and homework support (if desired) Available from 1 day a week (chosen skill) up to 5 days a week Cost to include specialist provision and consistency of staffing Healthy snacks included (fruit straight after school; more substantial cold snacks at 4.45pm for those children staying)
FAQ slides coming in a moment!
FAQs 1) Can you separate the pricing structure so that parents can pay for the club/activity separately to the additional time afterwards if required? 2) Can the pick-up time be extended to later than 5.30pm? 3) Could the children have a snack straight after school? (they will be hungry!) 4) Will the children be guaranteed a place? 5) What about breakfast club? 6) Will play aloud continue to accept KS2 children if parents wish for them to remain there? 7) Will KS2 provision accept childcare vouchers? 8) Will there still be time for self-directed play activities?
What next? For parents: Expression of interest (surveys already collated, attendance at this meeting noted) Further feedback (welcome at any point)
For us: Approximate confirmation of numbers (see above) Staffing and timetabling of activities Further responses to parental feedback Finalised by June 2019 so that confirmation of places takes place during Summer 2019
