In 2016 Simon Balle will be 60 years old, during that time we have grown in student numbers from 450 to well over 1000. We are a very over-subscribed school and many external students join our successful sixth form. New buildings have been built to accommodate this growth and in September we will see the opening of our newest building which will house our primary students. This is a very exciting phase in our history and we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our first reception cohort. The primary phase of Simon Balle will open in September with two Reception classes. Through the addition of a cohort each year we will grow into a 2 form entry primary phase joining our successful secondary phase creating a unique opportunity for local children. This will also provide a unique opportunity for staff as some may be involved in cross phase teaching. Our school is situated in Hertford which is a delightful mixture of old streets and wide public places whilst being a thriving contemporary town with many independent shops and businesses. It has a lively café culture, a great selection of pubs and restaurants, a theatre, cinema and music venues. The school site is large surrounded by grass and woodland and many of our facilities have been updated to cater for 21st century teaching and learning. We have embraced digital technology and currently all Y7 and Y10 students have iPads and other year groups will be using them soon. This is an exciting development which staff and students have fully embraced. We are delighted of our academic results both at GCSE and A level. Many of our 6th form students go onto university including Oxbridge and the Russell Group. A very wide range of subjects are chosen from the arts, engineering, humanities and music to name but a few. Other students take up apprenticeships or enter the world of work but whatever they opt to do they are fully prepared. We are proud to be ‘creating tomorrow’s citizens today’
We pride ourselves in developing staff and provide significant opportunities for leadership and promotion. It is a really vibrant and enjoyable place to work.
Simon Balle is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are also committed to the equality of opportunity for all. Applicants for this post must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers and the Criminal Records Bureau
