Simon Balle All through School provider access policy statement This statement sets out our arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the school for the purposes of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with our legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997 (Baker Clause).

Student entitlement Students in years 8-13 are entitled: ●

To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point. To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options evenings, assemblies, group discussions and taster events. To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses available to them.

Management of provider access requests Any provider wishing to request access should contact our careers leader Mr. Daire Brennan Telephone: 01992 410400, ext. 263 or via email on: brennand@simonballe.herts.sch.uk. If you wish to request further information regarding sixth form opportunities, please contact the Sixth form team on 019920410400 ext. 226

Opportunities for access A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils and/or their parents. We also are involved with the Careers & Enterprise Company, as well as Youth Connexions and we have a designated Enterprise Advisor. Below are the current events planned for 2018-2019.

Who should providers contact to discuss events and options? Providers can speak to our careers leader, Mr. D Brennan, to discuss possible attendance at relevant events. The school lead for Safeguarding is Mr Leon Brown and/ or School Manager Mrs Madeleine Harman who will act as the initial point of contact for facilitating providers to have access into school as visitors to talk to our students. Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Guest Speaker Policy set out the school’s approach to allowing providers into school to speak to our pupils.

Premises and facilities The school will make the main hall, classrooms or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available any specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with Mrs M Harman (School Manager) and Mr Brennan and appropriate declarations need to be completed by visitors beforehand. Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus and other relevant course literature with the Mrs Janet Syme at the school library or at reception. The library is available to all students at lunch and break times.

Approval and review This policy statement was approved by the governing board’s curriculum and standards committee on date. The next review will take place on Dec 2019. Signed: _______________________Chair of Governors
