UNIT 1 Patient admissions On the previous lesson of the 29th of September, the professor started emphasizing the importance of studying abbreviations and vocabulary of the Unit 1, as well as searching new vocabulary and sharing it in the portfolio. He also explained __ ( (TO) us how to do the handover: one student must do the handover of the previous class, that means one of us has to explain and summarize the lesson on this Google drive document where we can enter by his invitation. It will be corrected in the next lesson. Next, Jordi wrote a question on the board: “What does being a nurse entail?”. We had to pair up in order to answer the question. Then, we made a kind of brainstorm by saying what ideas came to our mind when we think about our future career. Some of the ideas were: empathy, look after patients, emotional intelligence, giving support, collocations, patience , dependable among other things. Then, we read and commented our feelings about a piece of a text which says that “Being a nurse isn’t about grades, it is about being who you are”. We also saw a video in youtube called “Being a nurse”. The most important expressions and vocabulary in the video were: -Quit learning ( never stop learning) -Check and re check piggy bags -Reach out (try to communicate) -Manage your time

We continued the lesson by making activity 1 page 6, but first we searched for the meaning of the verb “to scrub up” in Cambridge Dictionary online. -Scrub up: when a doctor scrubs up, He or She washes the hands and arms very carefully before performing a medical operation.

In the activity 1, we had to choose the correct verb tenses: Present Simple or Present Continuous. The last activity was a Speaking one. We worked in pairs asking questions and noting down our partner answers. To conclude the lesson, professor explained the homework we should do and how to send it to the portfolio: -Write exercise 2 page 7: a short composition about your partner, using the information we got in the Speaking. - Read the text “The Nursing Profession” and answer true or false for the questions professor wrote on the board. We will correct it next lesson. - Make the composition with your own words about the video “ How heart works” wich is in the wiki.

Next, we started to read the article "The Nursing Profesion" and to comment (on) it. During the reading, Jordi explained to us the meaning of some words we could find in the text. We also discussed about the different responsabilities of the nurses staff. When we finished the reading, Jordi asked to us what we thought about the nurses’ income.[lljflkajlfjañljsf] He also asked our opinion about if it was right with their responsibility. Then we saw a piece of the film "girl, interrupted" and we had to answer some questions about that film in pairs. After that, we learnt some of the hospital departments and we had been practising the pronuntiation of those words. To learn the meaning of those words, Jordi gave to us some definitions and we had to choose from a list the correct word. Before the break, Jordi gave us a tool to correct our writings. We will find that tool on the web page www.hemingwayapp.com.
