On September 23rd, in honor of Commander McCool's birthday, students and teachers dressed as astronauts or wore something related to space, the planets or Star Wars. “We, the students and teachers, will always remember Commander McCool's hard work and service to our country, especially on his last mission on the Space Shuttle Columbia."

ANDERSEN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN FROM AN AUTHOR
Submitted by Dr. Tyais Dial, School Principal Andersen Middle School In October (on two separate Saturdays), two groups of AMS students came to the school information center to participate in a “watch party”, in which they watched a presentation by Rick Riordan, the author of the very popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series. The viewing party was hosted by the school’s Information Specialist, Jim Rhodes. The students worked on activity sheets and played a Jeopardy style trivia game based on the Percy Jackson books before watching the interview with Rick Riordan. The winner of Jeopardy game received a “hundred dollar bill”! During the presentation the students learned about Mr. Riordan’s writing techniques, his start as an author, his next book, and the possibility of a Percy Jackson TV series!
