Submitted by Andersen Dragon Ambassadors Club. The Andersen Middle School Dragon Ambassadors visited the 5th grade classes at Andersen Elementary on Feb. 24, to assist students with the transition to the wonderful world of middle school. The ambassadors gave the rising 6th graders important information about their class schedule, what to expect in middle school, locker information, extracurricular activities and many more! The students were also given their 6th grade course selection sheets so that they can select their electives for next school year. t

Every April, resilient military-connected children are recognized during the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). Every year, we celebrate these amazing children for their selflessness and sacrifice as they proudly serve our country as part of military families deployed in country and abroad.

Remember: Start the FMTS process as soon as you receive official notification of assignment to an OCONUS location.

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLC) Child & Youth Behavioral (CYB) Program Compiled by School Liaison Office

Do you or your child need a little extra support due to moving to a new location, deployment or reunion adjustments, or daily life issues? Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLC) are available to support you and your children. Contact the Child and Youth Programs (CYP) or the DoDEA Guam School office during the school year to ask to speak with the Military and Family Life Counselor. Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) are licensed professionals with Master’s Degree or higher who provide shortterm, non-medical, problem solving support to military children and families. MFLCs understand the issues military children and families face and can be especially helpful during challenging periods, including deployments and PCS moves. MFLCs are located at the Naval Base Guam and Andersen Child and Youth Programs (CYP) and at McCool Elementary/Middle School, Andersen Elementary School, Andersen Middle School and Guam High School. Contact the CYP or School office to ask to speak with the Military and Family Life Counselor at these locations. Additionally, there are MFLC positions at Airmen and Family Readiness Center (AFRC), Northwest Field and Naval Base Guam who serve adults regarding topics such as marriage and relationship, stress management, job related issues, grief and loss and other types of life issue. 6

"Taco About It" Teen Social Event
Teen Dating Awareness Wave held last Feb. 01
Activities held for Teen Dating Awareness & Prevention Submitted and Photos by Andersen Family Advocacy Program Andersen FAP together with USO Andersen hosted a teen social event called "Taco Bout It" for youth ages 14-18yrs. They had activities that focused on building healthy relationships with friends, families, and peers. They held open discussions outlining the differences that make relationships healthy or unhealthy. There were also talks about how to have open and respectful
ANDERSEN MIDDLE SCHOOL HELD SCHOOL LEVEL SPELLING BEE Submitted by Mr. Jim Rhodes, Andersen Middle School Spelling Bee Advisor On Jan. 31, Andersen Middle School held this year’s school level Spelling Bee. Four contestants took up the challenge to see who was the best Dragon speller. The contestants were Reynalynn Tongohan, Xandrell Tabual, Chloe White, & Sarah Denzer. After 12 rounds of spelling, Sarah Denzer, 8th grade, came out on top and will represent AMS at the Guam Area Scripps National Spelling Bee competition in March. Chloe White was the runner-up.

In collaboration with Guam High School , a Teen Dating Awareness Wave was held on Feb.01 to provide awareness to students through signs, banners, and posters.
ANDERSEN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN FROM A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR Submitted by Dr. Tyais Dial, School Principal Andersen Middle School Recently, DoDEA students across the Pacific area had the opportunity to hear from Holocaust survivor, Ms. Dita Kraus. The 92 year-old Ms. Kraus story of survival in Auschwitz concentration camp was the inspiration for the novel The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iturbe. Ms Kraus spoke to students at Andersen Middle School and across DoDEA Pacific from her home in Israel. She spoke of the inhuman treatment she and other Jewish peoples suffered at the hands of the Nazis during World War II. 7

GUAM HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA TEAM PRODUCTION Submitted by Ms. Debora Moore, Guam HS Art Teacher Congratulations to the Far East Drama team who received acclaim and high marks for their production of The Rise of Tommy Rotten during the drama festival that took place virtually on February 17th and 18th. The actors took part in a two-day performance festival where they participated in virtual acting workshops with industry professionals on a range of subjects from performing Shakespeare, improve, auditioning & more. In addition, students were treated to a live Broadway medley performed by the USO Broadway Company. Bravo to our young performers. Read Across America Celebration at DODEA Guam Schools
7th-8th grade students read books in Spanish to 1st grade and kindergarten students at McCool School during Read Across the World Week. This collborative activity was designed by teachers to encourage and excite students to read more books as part of Read Across America.
CELEBRATING GENERATIONS OF READERS DoDEA Guam School students joined millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the Read Across the World Week from February 28th to March 4th. To celebrate the fun and value of reading, DoDEA Guam Schools held different activities. McCool Elementary School Students Create Family Coconut Book Projects Submitted by McCool Elementary School Families of Pre-K up to 2nd grade students were invited to participate in a family book project contest. The families read a book together and using a coconut, created a character or something representing the book the family read. A short description of the project was also included with their creations.
Guam High School Students Learn About Financial Literacy Submitted by Fleet & Family Readiness Center April is recognized as National Financial Literacy Month. Learn the importance on how to save, earn, invest, and protect your money. This initiative promotes the importance of developing financial skills that will help you achieve financial goals. In support of this initiative, the Fleet and Family Support Center partnered with Guam High School and conducted a class on Developing a Spending Plan. FFSC’s Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) Germaine Moore demonstrated the importance of savings, how to input wants and needs into a spending plan, and managing money wisely. Students chose a variety of expenses and were instructed to build a budget based on what was chosen. This class helped students understand the importance of money management.

SAC celebrated winter teaching our youth how to cut snowflakes. These were used to decorate the center during winter recess.
THE ANDERSEN TEEN CENTER CELEBRATED FRIENDSHIP DAY/"PALENTINES" LAST FEBRUARY As we celebrate the month of love and friendship, the teens enjoyed an afternoon fun of games, dancing, and a pool tournament. Best dressed was awarded to Kai Sanchez. The Pool tournament champion went to Trenton Lawson.

The Start Smart program is a 6 week parent and child group activity which performs motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence in children while they are having fun at the same time.
