MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB page 1 It is a beautiful sunny morning in Africa. The air is warm and sweet, and the sky is very blue. The chickens and ducks are the first to wake up. Next, three mischievous meerkats crawl out of their house behind the well to look for a morning snack. Mary yawns and stretches as she plays with her fluffy white lamb. Two boys, Atsu and KUH-weh-zah want to play with Mary and her lamb, but they must get ready for the first day of school. MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB page 2 Mary is excited to begin school today. She laughs and runs all around the village with her little lamb. The yellow ground is warm and dusty on her small feet. The duck and the chicken are talking about going for a swim in the pond. The meerkats are busy searching for food. Lets find them all. One meerkat is standing on a rock. The second one is nibbling on a fuzzy cattail. The third one has found some tasty cheese inside Mary始s house.
MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB page 3 The little white lamb follows Mary as she runs through the village on her way to school. They splash through the cool wet pond, and leave muddy footprints on the dry dusty ground. The lamb follows Mary as she runs past Boma and then through his house. Mary skips past two of the meerkats. One of them is sharing some cheese with the duck. Then, they run around the well where the third meerkat is hiding. Mary and her lamb crawl in and out of the tall brown grass, and it itches their cheeks and tickles their noses. Hurry Mary! It is almost time for school to start.
MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB page 4 Mary arrives at school just in time, and her little white lamb has followed her all the way. The chicken, the duck, and all three meerkats have also followed Mary to school. Can you see the all three meerkats? The last one is hiding behind the brown grass. All the students in the school are very happy to see Mary and the silly animals. The two boys Atsu and KUH-wehzah, wave to the Lamb, and Boma waves to the orange duck. Imani is happy to see her friend Mary. The teacher says, “Oh no Mary. It is against the rules to bring animals to school, because all they want to do is play.�
MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB page 5 The teacher decided to let them all come in anyway. All the children laugh and play with the silly animals all morning long. They play ring around the rosie and soccer. School will have to wait until tomorrow! THE END.
