The more we rely on mobile phone, the more safty concern we care. No one can live comfortablely without cell phone, its existence has become more irreplaceable.

Design Concept

I love the curve of mountain ranges, it shows a sense of dignity and conceals the thing you may not understand. The curve seems to be randomly scattered around, but it follows the rule and has its own philosophy behind.

The word "mountain" has always be used to interpret as countable, reliable, and worthy of trust, which share the similarity to the features of the cellphone case.

At first, the problem I want to solve is that people nowadays are not able to hold their phones tight, which causes the situation of the drop at a high rate.

In the view to the mobile phone has become more significant to our livings, this unsafe phenomenon produce the conflicts between the dependance of people to their phones.

Therefore a phone case with designed structure to privide the sense of safeness is a potential demand.

As for the rolling feature added on the mountain-like phone case, it was my method to solve the problem from a different point of view.

The movement of Rolling has a very clear affordance to explain the directions of upward and downward. People are able to adjust the volume button with a rolling device rather than the pressing buttons with adequent intuition.

Generally speaking, it would be challenging for user to hold the cell phone tightly with one single hand. In spite of the device extention of fingers, the phone case should carry some designed features, like the downcut curve or the upper convex on the surface.

The relative reasearch outcome enables me be more considerable on the phone case and know where to focus on.

FINDING PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

The data indicates that people usually drop their phone while they adjusting the volume button, besides the moment that they need to move their point finger to the side of the phone case, the situation of pressing the wrong button is also the main blame of it.

We need to have at least a 24.3* 11.8 cm palm to operate phone with single hand.

Mountain Shape

Irregular shape and uneven curving lines that mountain range present is too difficult to realize by imagination; therefore, I used the oil soil to shaping the outline and the phone case itself under the iphone 7 display model.

But after deciding the shape, the next challenge is to create a 3D model in Solidworks.

It nearly took me five days to analyze section profiles and solve modeling problems.

To look back, I found myself making a big step forward to modeling skill, and ability to look for methods.

Test the shape of he curving edge.

Use the rolling system of computer mouse.

Break it down.

Rolling Mechanism

The mainly mechanical structure I applied on rolling motion is to simulate the working mode of computer mouse control.

People are familiar with mouse usage, so if we apply it as new types of control, we can therefore come to the easy outcome without much effort.

In terns of the basic knowledge behind the rolling motion, I capture the rotating parts on the mouse and eliminate the useless parts, then leave space for the mechnisium.
