As a transitional serif design, Georgia shows a number of traditional features of rational serif typefaces as alternating thick and thin stroke, ball terminal and vertical axis.Speaking in 2013 about the development of Georgia, Miller Carter said, "I was familiar with Scotch romans, and was puzzled by the fact that they were once so popular but unfortunately they disappeared completely. Georgia’s numeral figure designs are lower-case or text figures, designed to blend in continuous text; this was at the time a rare feature in computer fonts.

Georgia is a "Scotch Roman"—a style which originated in types sold by Scottish type foundries of Alexander Wilson and William Miller in the period of 1810–1820. According to Thomas Curson Hansard, these were cut by London-based punchcutter Richard Austin.

Georgia shows number of traditional features of rational serif typefaces around the early 19th century. Closer inspection, however, shows how Georgia was designed for clarity on a computer monitor even at small sizes. It features a large x-height (tall lower-case letters) and its thin strokes are thicker than would be common on a typeface designed for display use or greater sharpness possible in print. Its reduced contrast and thickened serifs make it somewhat resemble Clarendon designs from the 19th century. 890

USAGE

Georgia is mostly used in English countries’s newspapers such as The Washington Post, Guardian, Telegraph and Wall Street Journal. Since newspapers are a mix of images and text, it’s vital that the reader can easily scan over lines of text and that it remain readable. Georgia is also used in Wikipedia as a headline or also as a subject’s tittle. Also, the text size might vary based upon the size of the reader’s screen. Few products supply georia such as Window’s, Publisher, Microsoft Office, Picture It, PhotoDraw and many more.
