INTERSTITIAL n. a small or narrow space or interval between things or parts, especially when one of a series of alternating uniform spaces and parts
The project aims for a radical transformation of the generic suburban neighbourhood near Churchill Park by introducing INTERSTITIAL spaces at different scales. A web of intimate relationships is established with the existing neighbourhood, among the residents of the building, and among the family members. The INTERSTITAL spaces are no longer an overlooked and unoccupied interval, but a communicative, interactive and friendly space that strenthens a sense of community.

"Extra-Small" Living: Prefabrication, Transportation and Assembly
Using a truck bed as a structural shell and pallets as a shading device, this “extra-small” TRANSITIONAL SPACE provides an affordable, sustainable and transportable lifestyle with minimal functions packed in a 40m2 space. The TRANSITIONAL SPACE is flexible and full of possibilieties, through use of transformable furniture, shading device and features for sustainable living. Eventually, the project envisions formation of a community, a number of houses gathered around a communal kitchen.

Production of crude oil is in rapid decline; in the near future, thousands of offshore oil platforms in Gulf of Mexico and around the world will no longer be in use.

Gulf of Mexico: Distribution of Offshore Oil Rigs
Abandoning or demolishing the superstructure is a great economic and ecological loss. Oil rigs, fully equipped with essential programs for living and excellent resources of industrial structure, have a strong potential for the future of architecture. OFFSHORE proposes renovation of Cantarell Oil Field, an aging supergiant oil complex in Gulf Mexico, into a hotel with warm equatorial climate and exotic view towards the ocean. Essential parts of the superstructure are to be recycled and reused to produce a monumental roof sturcture embracing the nature of ocean waves in gentle curves.

"The mask tells a single truth where the face tells many truths in the creases of its fluctuating deceptions and doubts... A mask is a face that lives without living."

The MASK HOUSE is designed for a mask collector who collects, produces, and performs with traditional and ceremonial masks. It is a place of residence, of performance, and of gathering. The house focuses on the concept of duality - contrast between bright and interactive atmosphere of the centre of the house and the secretive and dark display room for the ritual masks.

ABSORB is a multigenerational housing that supports socialization of different peoples with creative use of spaces, acknowledging the possibility of expansion and creativity of the residents as they live the architecture. Furthermore, the project reaches out to the urbanscape of the city of Cambridge as its podium becomes an inviting place for the public, initializing various social activities.

Downtown Toronto Revitalization Plan 401 Richmond Street West is a renovated industrial building that is now an urban hub for arts and culture in downtown Toronto. The proejct at its initial stage seeks opportunities for revitalization and future growth of the building and the surrounding area in question, by introducing new green spaces, urban plaza and residential development.

Country Day School The project calls for demolition, renovation and a new addition of two-storey building to an existing school in King Township, in response to increasing needs for more academic space for students and staff.

To Whom It May Concern: Jennifer Lim was employed by Urban Strategies from January 2 until April 26, 2013 as an intern urban designer. Urban Strategies is a multi‐disciplinary urban design and planning firm based in Toronto, with a broad range of public and private sector work throughout North America, Asia and the UK. Our firm employs urban designers, landscape architects, architects, planners and individuals with skills and expertise in graphic design, public administration and governance. Jennifer was involved in a range of urban design and master planning projects including the Queen’s University Campus Master Plan in Kingston, Ontario and the Ramapo College Campus Master Plan in Mahwah, New Jersey. Jennifer’s tasks included urban/campus design analysis and production of supporting graphics and presentations. She contributed to the design of projects and her tasks included CAD modeling and perspective rendering. She also was responsible for the production and graphic design of a number of documents and reports. Jennifer takes a keen interest in her work and responds thoughtfully and creatively to assignments. Jennifer has excellent computer skills and has produced compelling graphics, plans and models which clearly communicate design intent. Our design process places a strong emphasis on teamwork and Jennifer is an enthusiastic, responsible and dedicated team player. She takes initiative regularly and anticipates issues and challenges to determine solutions with minimal direction. Jennifer’s contribution to the work of the firm has been excellent and her outgoing personality enabled her to “fit” very well within our office culture.
