Asbury Park Hotel This hotel brings a new light to the revitalization of Asbury Park, as it is a foreign presence which morphs into its surroundings and can act as a catalyst for change. It acts as a threshold into Asbury Park’s recreational area by expressing the monumentality of the historical buildings around it, in a modern way. The building adapts to the surrounding conditions such as the old carousel house, the zero lot line of other buildings, the commerce of the boardwalk, the node condition at the corner, the views to the ocean and to Ocean Grove, the proximity to Wesley Lake, and the sunlight. Even though it is monumental, its adaptation welcomes guests as well as surrounding residents. Entrance Rendering

The southeast facade is made up of vertical Trespa panels that allow for shading and create privacy in the outdoor terraces. These dividers frame views of the ocean and can also close in case of an emegency to protect the building.
4th Floor Plan
The southwest facade is made up of horizontal Trespa panels which provide shading from afternoon sun. They allow for a more open view of the surrounding lake and the rest of the city. They can also close in case of an emegency to protect the building.
The northern facade is made up of Trespa panels and glass panels. It does not have shading devices since the northern light is much softer. The flatness of the facade emphasizes the zero lot line component of the street edge condition.

Jersey City Public Housing This project is a redevelopment for the Booker T. Washington public housing site in Jersey City at the site, building, unit, and detail scales. This is an individual part of a group project. Two months of extensive research on US public housing and the effect of super-storm Sandy led to this project. The research performed included gathering information from government agencies, architectural case studies, personal interrogations, presentations to site residents, etc.
Courtyard Rendering
The site entry and the courtyard in between buildings 1 and 2 are public spaces which create circulation and also moments of interaction for the residents. The first floors of both buildings are retail and communal spaces which are expendable in case of flooding, and the all floors above are residential.

The buildings are composed of a module which rotates around the central stair cores. The module is made up of two 1-bedroom units and one 2-bedroom unit. It maximizes views to the courtyards and reduces wasted space.

The detail scale of the project is the iconic “funnel that has different variations. It changes in size and in function, but they are all used to funnel rainwater into an underground water collection system. They can either be canopies, water features, or covered with grass to provide sitting and green areas.

Presenting to the residents of Booker T on various occasions was a unique experience which led to better design solutions from first-hand interactions.
Physical models were built at various scales. The site model shows the group site plan and building masses. The others focus on the structure of the funnels and how they are related to one another.

Newark Ironbound Branch Library Spr
ing
This project is a proposal for a branch library in the Ironbound section of Newark. It brings together the commercial fabric of the neighborhood with the residential community. The program is split in three categories which are separated to allow for different circulation patterns. The community spaces connect visually and physically to the residential area since they are to remain open after library hours. The offices are separated from the public spaces to allow privacy to the workers and to connect with the working area of the neighborhood.

Community Spaces
The building structure is made up of a steel grid of columns and beams that hold up the floor slabs, while the facades are all self supported. The program inside can be seen outside by the facades of the building as more or less transparent. The front of the building, which is occupied by the community spaces, is composed of a large glass curtain wall. This creates a direct connection to the community. The other spaces are more closed off from the outside by having concrete panels which create smaller glazing areas that only allow light to enter.

Newark Edge Housing This project is a residential building in downtown Newark bordering the Passaic River. It is part of a larger site strategy which includes park areas and commercial spaces. Along these spaces is also a Light Rail stop, which connects the residents to Penn Station and therefore to practically anywhere in the metropolitan area.

Different Units
The stepping of the building allows every top unit to have a terrace and large views of the surrounding area. These are the 3 bedroom units. The interior units interlock with each other to allow cross ventilation as well as having wasting less space in hallways. Each of these units also has an outdoor terrace. These are composed of studios, 1 bedroom units, and 2 bedroom units.

Designers Cafe This project is a proposal for a cafe inspired by the Panton Chair. After studying the chair, the cafe was designed to incorporate elements that were used in the chair, such as bending and folding one element to satisfy the necessary functions. The folding element in the cafe creates walls, floors, and a penetrating window, which make it dynamic even though it stays within the excising rectangular building.
