This past summer I came across a property for sale, just outside the city. In the back they had this early 20th century barn about ready to fall down. I see the owner is out there, and the lure of old barn wood for free brings my Jeep to screeching halt as I slide into the ditch next to the barn. The owner tells me about the sale of the property and that the buyers are upset that just before closing the barn collapses, which has put the sale into a bit of a spin. ( I promise not to rant over why people let huge pieces of equity rot away like that!!! ). So after some conversation, he lets me take some of the siding wood. It has a nice a grey look, heavily grained, with a little trace of paint left from 1910! Cutting into it reveals some nice yellow color. I have made a few small things from the wood already, and this is my most recent project. This measures, 13.5 x 5 x 6 inside. The lid and rope handle are combined with the idea that there is no need for hinges. The rope goes thru the bottom where it is knotted underneath. Glue and wood pegs hold it together. I have one similar I use for my gun cleaning apparatus. It is sturdy and meant to be banged around a bit. On one end is a drawing of the old Albany Seal. This box is for sale, along with a few other things. I will be at the Gilboa Dam event this May, if you care to see this up close.
