Dear Model Railroader:
During 2014 Micro-Trains will be tooling up and releasing our all new N scale SW1500 locomotive. Most all Class 1 Railroads operated this workhorse engine in their yard services, as well as by short lines and industrial customers. Our Switcher will feature separate detail parts, operating headlight, body-mounted Magne-Matic® couplers, and will come “plug-nplay” ready for those who use DCC in their layout operations. Additionally, Micro-Trains will expand our popular N scale Heavyweight Passenger Car series by adding the Diner Car to the series. Our model is based on the PRR D-78 BR Diner first introduced to the railroads in the mid 1920s. All new detail parts will adorn this car, including full scale interior with kitchen and prep area and seating for 36. In 2014 we’ll launch the Military “Nose Art” rolling stock series in N scale; which was initially produced in Z scale. You’ve asked and we’re responding by extending our popular Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey™ Circus themed series throughout 2014. In addition to rolling stock, Micro-Trains will continue offering a wide variety of both resin-cast and laser-cut models, so you can bring your layout closer to the real thing! Be on the lookout for these and many more all new themed series in both N and Z scale, this year! Welcome to our 2014 Micro-Trains Product Guide. For nearly 42 years, MicroTrains has been designing, tooling, producing, decorating and assembling the finest N and Z scale freight and passenger cars available, right here in Oregon, USA! Z scale 51’ Rib Side Mechanica Reefer
Mechanical Reefers began to replace the traditional ice loaded wood and steel side reefers during the early 1960’s. Lightweight materials, new plug door designs and efficient stand alone refrigeration units made practical the transportation of perishable commodities over longer distances. Our two new Z scale models, the R70-10 Rivet Side Mechanical Reefer and R70-12 Rib Side Mechanical Reefer, will have truck mounted couplers, molded-in roofwalks, vent detail and feature other recognizable details found on the full size prototypes. These new body styles will be offered with multiple road numbers so the modeler can begin to build that fleet of modern Reefers moving products east.

Our SW1500 locos will come with separate handrails, bells and horns, window inserts, operating headlight, bodymounted Magne-Matic® couplers, and fine surface detail. N heavyweight Diner Car
The Heavyweight Diner Car is based on the Pennsylvania D-78 BR Diner that saw service on the road starting in 1926. In total, thirty four of these cars were constructed and featured a smaller kitchen and larger pantry than earlier models, and had additional ventalation for crew and passenger comfort. Our model features ice AC equipment as modified in the 1930’s and with an all new prototypical 6-wheel truck, the 3D7P2. This 36 seat diner comes with a complete interior, correct side and roof details and rides on 36 inch wheels and body mount Magne-Matic® couplers for smooth, reliable operations.

All Micro-Trains rolling stock is designed, tooled and produced in the United States. Located in beautiful southern Oregon, Micro-Trains’ 33,000sq.ft. factory resides in the small city of Talent. For over 40 years Micro-Trains has been producing model trains, start to finish, right here in the USA. With over 60 employees, our crew is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality models in the industry and providing the highest level of service possible. Our in-house engineering and tooling departments push the limits of plastic injection mold tooling to create some of the finest models in the world. Once tooling has finished the mold and plastic has been run, the shells and related parts move on to our decorating department. The decorating process requires a variety of printing machines and special techniques to get the micro-fine print and mask detail that you find on our cars. The final stage is the assembly process where the cars come to life. Our assembly crew utilizes a combination of pneumatic jigs and hand assembly work to put the dozen or more pieces together for each car. We are proud that to date we’re the only model train company in the world that offers more than 140 styles of N and Z scale freight, passenger and locomotive equipment. Diesel Power Our GP-35, GP-9, SD40-2 and F7 locomotives are known for their superb quality and dependability. The ‘Geeps’ and SD40-2 have a coreless motor, directional lighting and come DCC ready. Our F7 just received a ‘face lift’ last year and now sports an all new shell with even finer mold detail and separate window inserts. F7 B-units are also available!

Prototype Train Sets If you like our locomotives, you’ll be happy to know that many of them are available as a train set which includes 4 freight cars, a caboose and an oval loop of track! While each set is identified by the scheme of the locomotive, the freight cars and caboose schemes may vary from set to set. These sets are a great way to get started with this scale!
