Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding Since 1938, skiing and snowboarding have been central to North Country School students’ experience. Whether new to the sport or experienced, students and faculty spend time each week on our own ski hill and at nearby Whiteface Mountain enjoying the Adirondack winter.
Learning Together – Instruction and Experience for All Students
Understanding that learning a new skill is part practice and part instruction, the foundation of the Ski and Snowboard Program is our Whiteface afternoons, when students participate in lessons through the Whiteface Snowsports School. Our on-campus ski hill, served by a rope tow and with a selection of trails, offers frequent opportunities to practice and hone skills during the week and on weekends.
NEW FOR 2017-2018 SEASON Recreational Program Students of any ability can choose to participate in weekend trips to Whiteface. Offered on a regular basis, these days are well suited to the recreational skier and rider and do not include instruction. Additional fees are lift tickets.
Competition Skiers and riders of intermediate and above ability have the option to train and compete through programs offered by The New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF). Based at Whiteface, NYSEF offers weekend training and competition opportunities in alpine racing as well as a freeride program for skiers and snowboarders. No previous competition experience is required. NYSEF provides all coaching and partners closely with the North Country School Competition Coordinator to communicate training goals, competition selection and travel needs. This Coordinator is also a close partner with the family of each athlete. Additional fees include NYSEF Coaching, competition memberships and registration fees, as well as expenses related to competition travel.
