Planting potatoes and learning to garden near Lake Placid by Todd Moe (Weekday Morning Host and Producer) , in Lake Placid, NY May 25, 2017 — The end of the school year is just around the corner, but students at North Country School and Camp Treetops are busy outdoors at the start of the gardening season. Most of the students and faculty took a break from books and blackboards last week and helped plant hundreds of pounds of potatoes.

Photo: Todd Moe North Country School is a boarding and day school for kids from around the world in grades four through nine. The 200-acre campus includes five acres of gardens. As part of the school's "edible education" curriculum, the students learn how to plant, harvest, cook and compost most of the food served in the dining hall “Potato Day� is an annual spring event at the school. Todd Moe stopped by as about a hundred students and teachers planted over five-thousand seed potatoes in just over an hour.
