X š We are still and solemn today in loving memory of the life and service of Mr. Johnny Mack Jackson, Jr., more affectionately known as “Junior.” He was born on January 9, 1951, to the late Johnnie Jackson, Sr., and Ruby Kate Harris (Jackson) Johnson, both of Brewton, Alabama. On April 22, 2022, Johnny Jr. was granted rest from labor to reward. So, we celebrate Johnny Jr.’s full life as a son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a life-time member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton, Alabama, serving on its Board of Trustees. He graduated in 1969 from Southern Normal High School in Brewton, Alabama, where he met his high school sweetheart Tiajuana Bert. He married Tiajuana on May 12, 1972, and they started a family including a daughter and two sons. After graduating high school, Johnny Jr. enrolled at Ed Reid Technical College in Evergreen, Alabama, for brick masonry before beginning service in the United States Army and fulfilling his patriotic duty. He proudly served in the Vietnam War as a master gunner with the 1st Cavalry Division and used his GI Bill benefits to enroll in Larkins Business School, where he earned a diploma in accounting. He retired from the Alabama National Guard after 25 years of service. Johnny Jr., who also retired from T.R. Miller Mill Company Inc., worked part-time as a landscaper when not maintaining the varieties of flora in his own yard and tinkering on craftsman projects. He spent much of his time supporting family and friends – often called upon to help with electrical, plumbing, and other household repairs. Appointed the unofficial family chef and grill master, Johnny Jr. may be remembered as making the best sweet tea and churning good old fashioned, homemade vanilla ice cream on hot summer days. His affinity for the classics was further exemplified in his devotion to watching television shows from his childhood, such as Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and The Andy Griffith Show. Johnny Jr. leaves his legacy with a devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Tiajuana Bert Jackson; daughter, Nykeya Jackson of Montgomery, Alabama; sons, Everett Symone (Courtney) Jackson of Evergreen, Alabama, and Johnny Jackson, III, of West Palm Beach, Florida; sister, Jean Johnson Culliver of Brewton, Alabama; aunt, Ethel Dinkins of Neptune, New Jersey; granddaughters, Imani Jackson of Montgomery, Alabama, Symone Dominique Jackson of Troy, Alabama, Evereona Symone Jackson of Atmore, Alabama, and Bailey Black of Montgomery, Alabama; step-granddaughter, Paris Campbell of Evergreen, Alabama; goddaughter, LaKeisha Betts of Brewton, Alabama; mother-in-law, Celia Bert of Detroit, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Gayford (Ann) Bert of Houston, Texas, Curtis Bert of Detroit, Michigan, and Derrick Bert of Detroit, Michigan, and Adam Clayton Powell of Atlanta, Georgia; and two special cousins, Ella Ruth Davis and Vivian Thomas, both of Brewton, Alabama, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Johnny Jr. was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Janet Johnson Powell of Brewton, Alabama; sister-in-law Debra Bert of Detroit, Michigan; and brother-in-law Samuel Culliver of Brewton, Alabama.
