Czech Republic Embassy in Addis Ababa The Contest The following project was developed as a final degree project for my bachelor degree in architecture. The project was a competition to design the Chezc republic embassy in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia. The project had to provide multiple solutions to different problems such as the weather, the context, security and the architectural program’s organization. The embassy project is a diplomatic complex compound by five different buildings.Inside it is divided in two zones, one for residential buildings and the other one for diplomatic facilities. Another criteria for the contest was to make an interpretation of the “Genius-loci (sense of the place) of Prague, this aiming to bring some of the Checz Republic cultural and architectural elements to Ethiopia.

The Project Idea

Project Requirements

We identified an “architectural pattern” in the city. We could find that the city is composed by three difeffernt “layers” of urban and architectural elements. The first layer was the river, followed by the bridge and residential buildings and at the top the castles and churches that are located on the city’s elevated zones. This pattern was the aspect that we decided to add into the project through an architectural reinterpretation of all the elements mentioned. 0. Destinated Plot for the Project

The public space is a multifunctional space designed as an amphitheater where events and cultural performances could be shown.

The public space is a perfect stage for the Chezc republic’s diplomatic events and some of it’s national parties.

Due to its flexibility, the public space can be a unique place where the citizens could spend their leisure time while learning about the chek republic culture through movies and exhibitions.

QUONSET HUT

The Project Idea The client requested an unique and affordable design for his new residence in the United States. The house has two different structures, the first one compounded by the wood frame walls and the wooden beams. On the other hand the secondary structure is the roof made by prefabricated Quonset metal profiles. This method provides an advantage at the moment of the construction that helps to reduce the costs and the construction timing of the project.

CABO ROJO HOUSE

The Project Idea Due to the project location in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, which is a Hurricane and earthquake zone. The house was designed with an earthquake resistant structure, at the same time it has specialized windows that can resist high winds . The facade design incorporates all the safety elements with a modern and aesthetical solution.
