Ground-up dining hall. I was tasked with designing the exterior facade and interior restroom layout by the Project Manager. After inheriting the design from another office, my enhancements included: breaking the roof into two planes, adding clerestory windows, creating a chimney with seating area, adding large roof overhangs. Additionally, I designed a shared restroom with 12 private gender neutral stalls. I created meeting minutes, coordinated with consultants, and met with the client’s representative. Ground-up religious campus. I assisted the Project Manager in designing the dormitory and retreat buildings for this project. Additionally, my role included designing the communal kitchen, dining area, and interior courtyard. I also designed a religious themed garden-walk with seating/contemplation areas, statues and water features. This historical residence was relocated to a corner lot. I assisted the Project Manager with the design of an open kitchen, dining, and living areas. I also designed a historically accurate wrap-around porch that had been previously removed from the house.

Ground-up mix-use commercial and hotel project. Under the guidance of the Project Manager, I was the lead designer for this project. I obtained preliminary approval from the Fire Marshal for my subterranean parking lot layout and designed spacious modern hotel suites complete with full kitchens, dining areas, and spas. The building additionally housed ground level retail, lobby with a pub on the second floor, and two stories of hotel suites above.

GRAND VIEW RESIDENCE (SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING)

PROJECT ROLE: CO-DESIGNER / SD, DD, CD

SOFTWARE USED: • AutoCAD STATUS: • Construction completed

Ground-up office and warehouse buildings. I was tasked with the exterior elevation design for the office and warehouse of the Facility Maintenance staff. My design was inspired by the existing Mayan architecture theme of the college and was used as the design template for additional proposed warehouse buildings on-site. I also designed the public vehicular circulation around the proposed warehouses and provided dedicated gated vehicular circulation for deliveries and parking storage for college owned vehicles. Ground up high-end multi-family infill development across the street from a beautiful park. I assisted the Principal with DD & CD phases. Additionally, I coordinated with consultants, met with regulatory agencies, and updated the plans as requested per client’s feedback.

I coordinated the provision of HVAC systems with Mechanical and Structural Engineers for layout and roof support. I also upgraded the existing boy’s and girl’s locker rooms to meet accessibility requirements. These upgrades provided: a minimum percentage of accessible lockers, changing seats, and showers. Ground-up spacious single family residence just outside of Santa Monica, CA. I designed the exterior envelope of the building. Additionally, I participated in SD, and constructed the DD, and CD phases. I also coordinated with consultants, regulatory agencies, contractor, and exchanged ideas with the client.

FEATURED PROJECTS...

MODATIVE, INC. • CONTRACT PROJECT ROLE: CONSULTANT SOFTWARE USED: • AutoCAD • Rhinoceros • KeyShot • Photoshop • Illustrator My role in this two-week contract consisted of Site Evaluation, SD, DD, and 3D modeling services to produce two new Accessory Dwelling Units for Modative, Inc. Only one ADU concept is presented here to avoid redundancy.

PROCESS & CONCEPT ADU A recurring design principle found in this neighborhood is “balance.” The facades of these houses are comprised of two towering walls (one at each end,) while the shorter less-important middle wall connecting them is used as the main entrance.

BALANCE

The concept is to invert the proportional relationship by making the middle wall the tallest element of the facade, thereby restoring hierarchy to the main entrance. Recurring patterns, materials, and colors found in this neighborhood have instigated a modern ADU design that ties back to the community.

PHYSICAL MODELS, PLASTER MASSING, AND PENCIL ART SAMPLES... LA ESQUINA MIX-USE PROJECT

PROFESSIONAL: DE-ARC PRINCIPAL, HECTOR PEREZ

De-Arc Principal Hector Perez tasked me with enhancing and reconstructing this mix-use physical maquette. I detached, sanded, stained, replaced and reattached modified elements. I added the image of civil rights activist Cesar E. Chavez to pay homage to the neighborhood’s Mexican-American history. The maquette was used at bank loan meetings as well as community design review board meetings.

THE BAILEY HOUSE - CASE STUDY 21 ACADEMIC: WOODBURY UNIVERSITY

For this master piece by Pierre Koenig, my studio project required that I added a bedroom. My addition mimicked the “L” shape projection of the carport and left the wrap-around water feature undisturbed. The same architectural style was continued with sliding doors opening to the rear yard.

SECTOR 9 HEADQUARTERS AND SKATE PARK ACADEMIC: WOODBURY UNIVERSITY

Sector 9 Skateboard Co. was an exploratory project to provide a new hypothetical building to house their headquarters, retail space, and skateboard park. The curvature of skateboarding ramps, along with urban materials like corrugated metal, served as the inspiration for the building. Curves where allowed to overlap based on programmatic requirements and dictated the window placement through a subtractive method.

PLASTER MASSING STUDY

ACADEMIC: WOODBURY UNIVERSITY

Light, shadow, color, shapes, and massing were studied in this exercise of extracting inspiration and ideas from an ordinary object. The 3D massing study was made from plaster and the resulting volume was explored as a habitable space.
