“To see beyond the obvious. This is the most memorable advice I was given by a teacher on the first day of architecture and design school. Since then, I have tried to apply this advice to my work every time I pick up a pencil to sketch an idea. Below I will share some of my ideas that have turned into buildings my past four years of study.

H housing
A house for a fisherman located in an island 1 km away from the Cartegena's city shore in Colombia.
Located on a small island with an area of 9000 square meters, this project is part of a group of 8 houses on the shore of the island; each one developed by a student in the class. The idea was to create a single-family detached retirement home for a single person in each lot of the island. Fisherman's House is the result of making three shaping operations in a 9x9 meters cube (sum of the spaces required), to approach visuals of the shore in all the spaces inside the house, responding to the necessity of privacy in certain areas of the house such as bathrooms and bedrooms. Because of the difficulty of transporting materials and removing dirt at the time of excavation, the decision was made to not dig too much and to create a prefabricated metal skeleton which would be easier to transport in the construction process. Placement and building shape coordinate with the geometry of the lot, native tree locations, incline of the lot and the location of the other houses on the island.

Medical clinic for the neighborhood of Tuna Alta in Bogotรก, Colombia
The district of Suba is one of the biggest and poorest sectors in Bogotรก, this health center responds to some of the worst's problems in the area in a neighborhood called Tuna Alta located on the slopes of a hill (including some homes on the hill). The three major issues with this neighborhood were : a lack of medical clinics in the zone, the need for a master plan that protects the natural resources of the hills from the ilegal housing by the areas poorest residents and the relocation of the residents who inhabite landslide zones. The clinic was designed to blend into the landscape, and became an harmonic element of the scenery. The clinic is buiIt in the shape of ribbons which follows the topography of the hill. Each ribbon contains diferent sections of the clinic (surgery, emergency room, maternity, external medicine, laboratories, hospital wards, morgue, housekeeping, kitchens, maintenance, and parking lots). The inline placement of the sections allows for easy movement in the building. The exterior of the building is a high-tech lattice that varies from location to location allowing for varied natural lighting and wind control.

territorial Cultural Synapses: Territorial planning for the border region of Colombia and Venezuela at the location of the Perijá mountain chain, between the cities of Valledupar (Colombia), and Maracaibo (Venezuela).
The border shared by Venezuela and Colombia is a strategic location rich in natural resources (water sources and unique flora and fauna). Currently there has not been any territory planning in the region leaving natural resources vulnerable to uncontrolled urban expansion. The plan proposed by Cultural Synapses is a territory model to be implemented over the next 50 years, and emphasizes in five points: ŸImprove infrastructure in the mountain chain separating both
countries. ŸPreservation and responsible use of the region's natural resources. ŸLand allocation for agriculture, industry and housing sites. ŸCreation of a sustainable region. ŸThe study and development of natural resources with the aim of
generating the knowledge to bring into the region income sources.

mall territorial A shopping center located in an urban renovation district of Bogotรก named innovation ring with a growing finnancial center.
The project consist of hotels, office buildings, housing, sports complex and a mall with the desire of a global financial district in Bogota. For this reason I proposed a project that would complement the office buildings that are currently constructed. Currently the proposed site contain an abandoned railroad which will be developed into a regional bullet train that would connect Bogotรก with various local cities. The shape of the mall is based on the hills of Bogota, a two level building with a rooftop green area that includes walking paths.

Ground plan
In this sustenaible housing proyect in the department of Meta in Colombia, I first worked drawing the plans, sections and elevations of the house. Then by drawing all of those, I model the house in 3D to generate renders to present to the owners of the house. This project helped me to understand the procidure to desing housing proyects and to understand ways to apply sustainable technologies in green buildings..

In this project of landscaping for the cafeterias surroundings for an oil and energy company in Colombia, I learned how a landscaping project is developed. It helped me to understand the importance of the correct usage of different tree species in bioclimatic, and to apply concepts of sustainability to design green buildings.
