For me, these are not only the first work of the first project since I have chosen environmental design as my major, but also the most sentimental understanding about space. Course Name Space Design Title Peel Space & Vegetative Space & Surface Reconstruction Space Year of completion 10/ 2012 Duration Total 3 Weeks Instructor Yang Maochuan, Professor, School of Design Type Personal Design Project

Space Design Peel Space 04

Inspired by the interesting shape of peel, I designed a peel space as the first space design work. Because of the feature of peels, which has a undefined boundary between the horizontal and vertical elements, the peel space is a much more free and active space. In addition to the peel elements reflected directly in the facade, the plan has also been reflected in the spiral peel.

STEP THREE

Just like a soft foam net can protect fruits, I designed a insulation layer in the model which composed by lines. It using plane and line’s contrast to avoid visual bored and allows the space become more practical under the protect of bubble net.

Space Design Vegetative Space

Space Intention I used water as the element to design the second one, vegetative space. It consist of two major concept, ancient tribes which grew on the riverside and modern urban layout which has a strong feature of grid shape. The pure color of black and white enhanced the space contrast between reality and imagination, the level of scattered shape also formed a strong sense of extension.

Space Design Reconstruction Space 08

The third one, surface reconstruction space, is assigned by the tutor, and it is interesting to try several times in the process of making the model.I picked up this one as the most satisfied work after many times tests. It reconstruct the evolution of three cubes to build a wholly new space.

Residence for the Color Blindness 10

The color blindness residence is inspired from the color deficiency architect Carlos Weebe, who believes to embrace colors firmly with the ultra sensual manner. His works take full and bright colors to pass on his love for life, creating the residential design with rainbow colors.

Stimulated by Carlos’ work, I design a set of residences to “express oneself for the color deficient people, by using the techniques including bright color contrast and block turning, which in one hand directly reflects the spatial characteristics, convenient for visually impaired people's life; on the other hand, expresses love for strong colors, paying respects to Carlos.

Color Differences between Common People and the Color Blindness

The Component of living room and kitchen echoes with each other to produce the sense of form. The partition wall from the kitchen to the master bedroom can move relying on the rail, forming three forms including wholly open, partly open and wholly closed to meet different needs of space atmosphere.

“ The design should follow the principle of letting people having tea comfortably without too many rules. The real comfortable space should let people think it isn’t designed by people, but feel that it should be here, making people feel comfortable rather than feel it is deliberately making. ” TITLE Residence for the Color Blindness YEAR OF COMPLETION 12/ 2013 DURATION 6 Weeks TYPE Personal Design Project site Nanchan Temple Shopping Street

As one of the founders of "Chuan Qi" Tea Products Shop, Wang Jun hopes to open the folk art shop and teaC space based on the inheritance and innovation of Jiangnan culture and traditional handicraft, as well as provide the life experience of Jiangnan culture relying on the cultural background of Wuxi ancient canal for the public. Another founder Mr. He Wenzhong made it clear that he hopes to show a style of "fusion" and "mashup" in the time of shop decoration, expecting that the decorations do not rigidly adhere to the manifestation form of Chinese tradition.

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS In the existing design, however, influenced by the building structure and indoor layout, the owner’s desire of letting more people understand the purpose of tea culture does not seem to be realized, and even some functions can’t be met. Therefore, I hope this transformation can not only reflect the owner’s open and communicating idea, but also meet the shop’s requirements of selling, display, gathering and others. The overall idea of design is to possibly tear down the solid walls to bring in more sunshine.

Instead of walls, I tried to using bamboo to separate space and bring in sunlight

The second floor still insists the design concept of no solid partition walls, but it is a more quiet and private area. Comparing with the openness and freeness of first floor, I add a big curtain to the two areas in the east, separating it into several independent teahouses when necessary.
