Celebrate

our kids * our friends * our selves

From The President Email jules.maas@gmail.com

Celebrating MultiplEness Back in April, many of our members met in Amy Spies‘ room for drinks at the 2013 NWAMOTC Convention. We sat on the bed, couch and floor telling stories, singing songs and talking a lot about what this club means to us. It means teaching, it means learning. It means helping, it means sharing. It means friendship, it means love. It’s a place of understanding. “We used to celebrate multiples - whether you have them or are them,” someone said. That is the statement that has set my direction for leading the Valley Mothers of Multiples Club this year - and in the redesigned newsletter you are looking at right now. As we prepare to kick off our new year of meetings and activities, I have asked our board to help me look at the opportunities to show and share with each other this incredibly wonderful, often challenging journey we’re on. We hope you’ll take the ride with us. We’ve got lots of ideas and a few more surprises. Please join us for an upcoming meeting or event very soon. Because most of all, what we we need is you. Love,

Jules Maas President, Valley Mothers of Multiples Club

Chairmom Reports All the News From Us To Yous

Sunshine I am the new Sunshine Chairmom for this year. If you or those you love need some sunshine in your life, please let me know. We want to laugh with you, celebrate with you and share our tears with you when need be, that's what makes us sisters. We want to send our get well wishes to Jana Simpson. Seems she hasn't gotten her RV legs under her quite yet. From her mother, “Jana is off work for three days with a hand injury. She was walking to the front of the motorhome while Nancy was driving in heavy traffic. The breaks were hit and Jana fell forward catching herself with her right hand. She is in a brace until the swelling goes down as she may have a broken bone. They had gone huckleberry picking near Mt. Adams. Oh yes, the huckleberries had an accident this morning too. Riess opened the freezer and the cookie sheet they were on fell on the floor in the garage. Garage looks like a blood bath!” Additionally, we want to send our heartfelt sympathy to Jana and her family on the loss of their beloved friend, Pinky. They were on vacation Friday evening when they received word that Pinky had

been hit by a car. Our 4 legged family members are as precious to us as any other family member and we know she will be greatly missed.

Dues will be delinquent October 1

Play Time Les Gove Park - 5/11

Jules’ House - 7/31

Summer of Sun After the long, cold, rainy winter of 2012-2013, playdates returned to the Valley Mothers of Multiples Club schedule of events. Our first playdate took place at the fun & familiar Les Gove Park (some members will remember this as our Santa Brunch location for the past

Going anywhere with multiples is so freaking epic. But then again, so are the rewards. ~jules several years). The Barnhills and Maas families met up on an extremely warm & sunny day, and were able to share tips and challenges, and attempt to hang out while chasing five extremely energetic 2 year olds: Gavin & Aiden Barnhill and Ashley, Sarah & Emma Maas. The Links generously hosted the next gathering at their lovely home in Kent. Carter & Whitney

enthusiastically showed the Maas triplets their bedroom, had lunch and shared all their incredibly cool toys while their moms talked about potty training rewards, the party supply store, wall paint colors and the puzzling downward spiral of almost any Pandora station into Metallica. The end of July lent an unexpected opportunity for an impromptu date at the Maas residence - when Amy Spies brought her grandson, Nicholas, over to play while Jules went into the hospital for Orthognatic surgery to extend her lower jaw. They colored, mowed the lawn, and somehow got a boy to cook in the kitchen. He needs to come back soon so Jules can figure out how they did this, although she’s willing to bet it’s probably something he learned from his Grandma. Many playdates were also added to our facebook group this summer at events and locations including Storytime at the Covington library and the Maple Valley Kids Festival at Lake Wilderness. As we continue to look to gain new members and their children, we are currently planning to create a frequent, regular schedule of playdates every month. We will begin organizing these playdates soon - so if you would like to request a date, time, location or simply find out about the next one, contact Jules Maas at jules.maas@gmail.com. Thank you!

Nicholas, Emma & Ashley

Special Thanks “Ever since our triplets were born, I’ve thanked God and all the lucky stars in heaven for the friendship and generosity the members of VMOMC have shown me. Most recently, I had major jaw surgery and was unable to care for Ashley, Sarah and Emma for an entire week. Amy Spies helped my mother-inlaw the day I went into surgery and brought Nicholas for a play date. Amy Link offered to have another playdate with us (which I am really looking forward to soon!) Janice checked in on me so Travis could run to the store one evening, and Cindy not only brought us the world’s greatest Mac & Cheese, but the girls’ first popsicles. Ladies, I just want you all to know that your help and love mean the world to me and made a huge difference to me during recovery. Thank you so much - I am SO GRATEFUL for all my Valley sisters.” ~Jules Maas

Social Night

Summer BBQ @ Toni’s House On July 19th, Toni Watanabe graciously opened her home and brand new deck to VMOMC for a summer Girl’s Night Out BBQ. We had a wonderful meal of BBQ brisket sandwiches, deviled eggs, macaroni salad, fruit, and lemon cake! After stuffing ourselves, we presented Cindy with her memory book and then talked for hours.

“I want you all to know how much I love and cherish our friendship.” Relaxing with your Valley sisters is the best medicine any mom can hope for. We hope you can make it to the next!

Future Socials Doesn’t it make sense that moms of multiples need to get out even more often than moms of singletons? ABSOLUTELY! And yet, we get out So. Much. Less. than any other ‘regular’ mom we know. VMOMC wants to organize more social nights just for our stellar supermoms - but we need you to help us make them a reality! Contact our Social Chairmoms with your ideas AND your availability for doing outings and/or girl time.

Special Thanks “I would like to thank all of my Valley girls for the beautiful picture book for my reign as NW President. There sure were a lot of pictures that I didn't even know that were taken. I will make sure that I bring it to the September meeting for all to look at.

Dad’s Night We are also talking about bringing back Dad’s Night. Let us know if your significant other would be interested in participating. Football season is just around the corner as are places offering television, beer and wings!

Family SocialS Our socials chairmoms are already hard at work making early plans to give our families the opportunity to get out and have fun together at the upcoming seasonal celebrations for Halloween, Santa Brunch and Summer 2014. This year, we are looking at outdoor pumpkin activities at Mosby farms (http://mosbyfarm.com/), including pumpkin picking, hay riding and of course, photo opportunities.

Toni’s New Deck

Keep an eye on your calendars for dates in early October & December.

Cindy Williams I have been a member of Valley for 42 years and I have acquired some fabulous friends and acquaintances from this wonderful group of gals. I want you all to know how much I love and cherish our friendship. You will all be forever friends. Thanks again for who you all are.” ~Cindy Williams
