“During college and grad school, I worked in the Nic’s stores for the Gavalas family. During breaks in the day, Nic himself used to tell me great stories and jokes from his 50+ years in the store. To this day, it was one of the most enjoyable jobs I’ve ever had. I met so many great people: legislators, lobbyists, professionals and business owners, whom I would come to call friends. Working at Nic’s was so much more than just a college job; the Gavalases treated me like family. Mike gave me pay advance at the beginning of the semester for books. During my last semester when a Fortune 500 company flew me to New York City for a second interview, George gave me his old overcoat and Victor drew me a map of great restaurants within my (at that time) meager budget. The job not only helped me financially through college, I also learned so much from those guys – developing strong long-lasting relationships, providing superior custom service and those guys…those guys really love clothes. My love of fine clothing brought me into the stores but working there took me to another stratosphere of appreciation. I reside mostly in Santa Rosa Beach and even though I’m not living at my home in Tallahassee as much as I once was, I still get my custom-made clothing at Nic’s. I love the entire process of selecting everything from the pockets, the buttons, the fabrics, the lining, and the expert tailoring providing that perfect fit. Continue to Next Page...

When I come back from my travels and am inspired for something new like the styles I’ve just seen in NYC or Europe, Nic’s is ahead of the game to replicate that new fit or have latest fabric lines to custom make suits exclusively for me. Everywhere I go, people constantly comment: how do you get your spread collar to lay just right or where’d you get that great jacket… I just smile and pull outward on my jacket lapel showing them the inside label - “Nic’s”.
