I was a participant in the Design Justice Summit bringing together twenty-four social impact architects and designers from across the country with the explicit intention of sharing knowledge and workshopping to address the intransigent issues of injustice facing communities throughout the world. The mission was to grow a diverse community of public interest design leaders with the capacity to shape the future of the profession towards equity. We were inspired and challenged to take the knowledge learned throughout the summit and return to our own communities to innovate and implement.
Hip Hop Architecture Design Cypher Autodesk- San Francisco, CA
The Hip Hop Architecture Design Cypher joined hip hop artists with young architects, designers and technology creators to explore the juxtaposition of architecture and hip hop! The three day event challenged participants like myself to explore the cultural implications of architecture, design, and related art forms through the lens of Hip Hop Culture.
FROZEN MUSIC
My Team took the concept of architecture as frozen music, and expanded into exploring how we could use design technology to make art. Process: 1. The Team chose a song 2. Each Team member listened to the same song and drew on a board how we envisioned the beat with our eyes closed. 3.We documented it with photos 4.We Transcribed drawings into Autodesk Autocad drafting software. 5.Then we compared to see how dramatic our movements were in comparison to one another picking up on beats, instruments, the 8 counts, the pocket etc. 7. We laser cut each team member’s piece of frozen music on plexi glass 8. We used the table saw in the wood shop and stacked each person’s frozen music in unison. 9. We blended music and technology to create ART.
