Tiffany She’s the offspring of two tasteful parents: Ronaldson, released in 1884 by MacKellar Smiths & Jordan Foundry, and Caxton, released in 1904 by American Type Founders. In 1974, Ed Benguiat combined these two typefaces to create Tiffany. Like the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, this typeface is eccentric, fun, and memorable. The star of the movie, Holly Golightly, lights up the screen in a way that only Tiffany could accurately translate. On screen or in print, you can’t help but stare at these two sassy, playful women. 9

Ed Benguiat The Designer

Q

Benguiat was born on October 27, 1927. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Ed's father was display director at Bloomingdale’s, so it’s only natural that his son would have such great taste. Prior to his illustrating career, Benguiat was known as a prominent jazz musician. Over the years, Ed has created over 600 typefaces. His work includes but is not limited to crafting Bookman, Panache, Edwardian Script, and Benguiat Gothic. Benguiat designed logotypes for The New York Times, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, and even the original Planet of the Apes film. When Benguiat is not designing, he enjoys flying his personal plane with his wife Elisa. Today, Ed Benguiat teaches at School of Visual Arts in New York. 10

Colophon Tiffany Type Specimen was produced for Claudia Strong’s typographic design course in the frigid months of February and March 2015 in Syracuse, New York. This book was created using InDesign CC. The computers used were a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) and an iMac (OS X Yosemite). The only font used is ITC Tiffany from Adobe. Also in the making of this book... Two iPhones were lost, twenty cups of coffee were consumed, three burrito bowls were inhaled, ten Spotify playlists were found, four mental breakdowns were had, and zero Tiffany’s necklaces were purchased.
