Unlike Alan Moore’s ‘V for Vendetta’, it is love and not hate that can create a better future. The hope to overcome the strains between Tibetans and Beijing’s rule is built on the principles of Buddhism and the harmony between human and nature. Within the ‘Ring of Life’ and the Qingke landscape, there are 5 seasonal interventions made mainly from ice, appearing only in the coldest part of winter to disseminate the virtues of peace: the ‘Sky Road’ (the path of forgiveness), the ‘Pavilion of Humility’ (the communal dining), the ‘Moonlight Podium’ (a floating structure to contemplate afterlife), the ‘Bodhi Trees’ (the library of enlightenment) and the ‘Earthly Disciples’ (short-term mud lodgings for Tibetan farmers). Through this sublime winter landscape, Tibet is offering China a form of salvation and spiritual repent from their relentless industrialisation. True inner peace can only be achieved by loving one’s enemy.
