Newsletter – New Year 2019

Stefan supports staff and champions Clinical Futures Most people know Stefan Senese as the vice-chair and lead steward for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s UNISON branch. But Stefan has volunteered for another role – to champion the Clinical Futures project and help support staff to find out more about the programme and how it’s going to affect them and their work. The Clinical Futures Strategy is the Health Board’s plan to future-proof health service delivery across Gwent – it sets out how we are moving to a better balance of care by delivering more care close to home and creating a network of local hospitals to provide routine diagnostic and treatment services. The plan will also see the centralising of specialist and critical care services in the brand-new and purpose-built Grange University Hospital, at Llanfrechfa. The Health Board knows that

its strength is its dedicated and skilled workforce and acknowledges these kinds of major change to the way that services are delivered will impact on those staff – so is working hard to make sure that everyone will know how the Clinical Futures programme will affect them directly just as soon as the plans are confirmed.

addition, the Champions will support all the staff throughout the Health Board and their own areas of work, by generating and suggesting ideas, listening to their colleagues’ ideas and informing the Clinical Futures teams so they are able to signpost colleagues to appropriate advice and support.

In the meantime there is still lots of information about the programme available and Stefan is one of more than 340 staff members from across all disciplines, divisions and departments who are helping people to find out more – by becoming a Clinical Futures Champion.

They will help staff to meet the challenges of the future in a positive way, so to find out more about CF and let the Health Board hear your ideas speak to your CF Champion or become one yourself – just ask your nearest Champion. They might not have all the answers, but can support you and help you access the most up-to-date information.

Clinical Futures Champions will be easily identifiable by the badges that they wear and it is the Health Board’s ambition that there will be one in virtually every workspace. Team managers will still be most people’s route to the most up-to-date information, but, in

And if you want to become a champion and support your team contact Sian Gibson, Organisational Development Facilitator, or Stefan can tell you more. You’ll receive support and training from the OD team to make sure you’re equipped for the role.
