My name is Julia Slopnicka and I come from Jastrzebie Zdroj - a small town in the South of Poland. Throughout my entire life my main priority was education: searchiing for the best opportunities, applying for leading universities - challanging myself and striving to be better every day. The time spent in the Architectural Association provided me with an alternative, abstract view on design and great graphical skills, helping to develop my personal style. This experience left me open for new aesthetical inspirations often derived from pop architecture of the 60s, collage art or modernist sculptors. The Master Programme at TU Delft turned out to be a perfect combination of techncal knowledge, that allows to be fully prepared for working in the proffesional architectural practice, and human-oriented design ideology, incorporating phylosophy, atropology and psychology into the learning programme. This period enabled me to think of an architectural proffesion as a powerful tool that may be used to address various social, environmental and economic issues, having a great potential to influence and improve human lives. I am a very driven, determined and dedicated person, always looking for a challange and something new to learn. Personal development has always been a leading principle of my life and a source of continuous motivation for everyday work. Thanks to great organizational and time amnagement skills I always manage to work on the highest efficiency level being both a great designer and a capable leader.

VARANASI PROJECT

VARANASI PROJECT Defining current location-specific issues and their exploration through extreme dystopian scenarios. Challange: finding time-resistant and locally understood language to enure long lasting existance of embodied message (warning). Using spatial means to embody the message - Creating Ritualized Space.

Issue 01. Buildings deficiency; uncontrolled self appointed structures; urban spraw; rapid floating population growth.

Issue 02. Extreme pollution of water, air and soil.

Issue 03. Chaotic uncontrolled unsustainable traffic.

Abstract scenario - development over time; City Scale Stage 01.

Stage 02.

Stage 03.

Overpopulation, chaotic traffic, pollution, self - appointed structures above existing buildings, uncontrolled adaptations.

Extreme increase of number of pilgrims, more pollution, rapid self - appointed structures development. Escaping the crowded streets, original citizens - prisoners in their own homes, floating population taking over the city.

Original citizens defending their homes, pilgrims dismentling the old city - its fragments treated as relics. Structers towering higher above the city - escaping from the crowd, pollution and flooding. Floating capsulas as a way for more effective use of upper space.

Stage 04.

Stage 05.

Extreme flooding - city under the water. Division into two worlds, structures towering above the city reaching the water surface, development of both: floating and underwater structures.

Floating city development above the water level, below - underwater city of Varanasi. Ritual journey of transition as the only link between two worlds.

Abstract scenario - development over time; Building Scale. The development of water resistant capsules protecting the city’s remains.

METHODS AND ANALYSIS STUDIO - MASTER GRADUATION PROJECT: LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES Mediation between private and public - introducing innovative spatial means of smooth transitioning between different levels of restriction of access. Handing down the control to the user - offering The Landscape of Possibilities from which the user can choose his own path and render his own experience within the building. Form: flexible expandable structure responding to the current demand of space - allowing buisnesses or private owners to add their own custom deisgned spaces navigated by the catalogue of options and guidlines.
