Hi!
I’m Julie! A certifiably creative graphic designer working and smirking in Orlando.
With strong skills in layout and surface design, I have experience in the publishing and textile industries. As any designer should be, I’m opinionated, observant, genuine, and somewhat obsessive.
Craft ninja, bullmastiff lover, and exotic plant wrangler. Bohemian in bloodline and spirit, color is my language. Well, that and sarcasm ;) Raised in Chicagoland, and yes, I’ve still got the accent... Lived 10 years in Buenos Aires, where I soaked up the language, aesthetic, and plenty of Malbec. Now based in sunny central Florida, where my plants are enjoying their best life. Creative solutions are my jam. Let’s make some!
AND, I get sh*t done.

My Take on Design Graphic design is not art. I know that is an unpopular view with some designers, but here’s what I mean: What is the point of graphic design? Interpretation and communication. Taking the vision of the client, and translating that into a visual concept that communicates what they are trying to get across. I simply ‘channel.’ The client has a need to present a certain image or project certain information. That client does not have the skills and time to invent a visual version of their concept.
That’s where I come in. It’s my job to understand that concept on a very deep level. Whatever it takes to understand that need is what I do. Because without that understanding and foundation, there will be no success. And only then can I begin to interpret the concept and craft a visual representation. I liken it to a person who writes love letters for those who are not poetic. I listen deeply, brainstorm, and then craft love letters on behalf of the client so they can make people fall in love with their product. So yes, there is some artistry involved, but design is not about me. I am but a humble conduit.
| Take and Process
My Creative Process Connect with the client. Tease out everything they are about and would like to communicate. Then I get into a submarine to think about the client. When I detach and resurface, there are meaningful insights, ideas, and bespoke, often multi-disciplinary strategies. That said, my process is quite structured and old school. I’ve found that it’s best to stick to a format which can keep the client involved and abreast of the progress, which in turn, involves a higher approval rate.
Sample Logo Process: • • • • • • •
Client interview. Brainstorming/ word cloud/ mood board Multiple sketches. Winnowing of sketches down to 3. Client picks favorite idea (or not, and then its back to round 2 of sketches.) Concept is chosen, refined in sketch form. Only now is idea brought to the computer. And we are on our way to a successful solution

DESIGN SOLUTION I was inspired by the peace movement of the late 60’s and 70’s, which is reflected in the font, halftone effect, and band poster inspired layout. The hands of different colors are used to symbolize different kinds of people engaged in meaningful dialogue with one another.

DESIGN SOLUTION An image of clouds from a Chinese textile inspired the logo. The repeat pattern was taken from a topographical map illustration, and done in white so that it would reference not only a world influence, but smoke rings. Incense varieties were named for scents associated with respective regions. Pattern in background suggests both (insence) smoke and topographical maps.
