#13WHAT’SYOURWORRY While I would not call myself a constant worrier, I do worry at times. Little concerns sometimes buzz around in my head, and mostly I am worrying about things that have not even happened. When I am in my worry phase, ‘what if’ questions start entering my mind, which realistically only exist among the pixies in my head. And if you are anything like me, very few worries are as painful or terrible as imagined, and are often just nonsense made up in our own minds. Feeling that I must worry about a small or big problem will do nothing for me, and in a world where our thoughts control how we feel, this is when it’s time to sit back and remind myself, I do not need the unnecessary worrying in life. Unnecessary worrying is an unproductive habit that will never amount to anything positive. I intentionally train and remind my mind to not worry. (Read: Self Talk). Then I tell myself to look at the big picture — how bad is it really?

WORKING ON A FEW OF THE POINTERS AND TIPS BELOW HELPS MANAGE MY WORRIES AWAY… 1. Take your mind off the problem and EXERCISE, activity takes your mind off things and brings you into the present moment. Things become clearer after being active and taking a break. 2. MEDITATE You need to detach yourself from all that clutter and the best way to do that is meditation. We all have our own way of meditating that will increase focus and clarity. 3. Choose where to FOCUS your attention. Understand that you can choose to focus on positive rather than negative thoughts. In fact, as you become more positive, you’ll be better able to create more positive outcomes. (Read: Good Life Habits) 4. RELAX in your own positive thoughts. It’s hard not to feel bombarded. Most likely you spend your days in a constant state of flux, so set aside time to relax. You’ll find that your worrying thoughts will subside. (Read: Simple Things) 5. BE REALISTIC. Ask yourself honestly, what is the worst that can happen? Remember you cannot control the uncontrollable. 6. DON’T ASSUME what someone else is thinking. Spend time finding perspective — how bad is it really? 7. REMIND YOURSELF that most things we actually worry about probably don’t exist or will materialise. 8. See the situation how it is really is, and TALK it over with someone you can trust. Don’t get lost within your own mind, bring it out. By letting your worry out and talking it through, it becomes a whole lot easier to see the situation for what it really is. 9. Ask yourself, what is the next SMALL STEP to move forward and improve the situation you are in to move away from worry. 10. CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION about your circumstances. This will help you change your attitude and ultimately allow you to move away from problems out of your control. Even though we know that worry is bad for us, often we can’t help ourselves. After all, we are only human. Getting lost in worries will only hold you back in life. Worrying solves nothing and a worried headspace is not healthy. So next time you see yourself move into worry mode, which affects each of us in different ways, try and analyse why you feel this emotion in the first place, know where to draw the line, and don’t let yourself cross it. (Read: Mental Strength). Remember, the difference between positive people and those who let themselves slip into a downhill spiral is the difference between worrying a healthy and helpful amount, and worrying too much!
