#22FINDTHEFUNNY I’m not very good at telling jokes, I forget key points or I simply forget the punchline. So, I rarely attempt to tell a joke or funny story, as 9 times out of 10 I know it will backfire on me. However, I do have a good sense of humour and, like most of us, I love to laugh. Laughter makes us feel good – give me some of that anytime! It warms our hearts and fills our body with love. Just think about how great you feel after you’ve had a good laugh! My 11-year-old son seems to have a good handle on laughter, he brings laughter to me on a regular basis. He has a habit of hiding himself around the house and, when I enter a room, he jumps out and surprises me, giggles and finds it very funny. This repetitive joke is contagious and I can’t help but join him with a good laugh (sometimes I hide and scare him back). The important thing is we both have a hearty chuckle together, regularly. (Read: What Matters Most) During our holidays last month, I was lucky enough to experience many doses of laughter while we holidayed with a group of friends. (Read: Best Friends). One evening in particular, while playing charades, I found myself crying with laughter and seriously could not stop. Tears were pouring out of my eyes and my belly started to ache. Over the same holiday, we shared many laughs from the past and present day – such good times! It made me think to myself: how good laughter is and how important it is to find the funny in situations. Unfortunately, the reality is as we get older we laugh less. We lose our innocence and start taking life a bit too seriously. Things get busy, stressful and complicated and those laugh out-loud moments aren’t always at the top of our minds or accessible. That’s why it’s important to remind ourselves of laughter and how wonderful it can be. (Read: The Happy Plan)

IT’S IMPORTANT TO FIND THE FUNNY IN SITUATIONS AND A REASON TO LAUGH OUT LOUD EVERY DAY, BECAUSE: • Life’s hurdles won’t seem so bad; laughter offers us an escape from the hard parts, reducing stress. • It’s totally free, unpredictable and unexpected. • Laughter connects us with people, bonding us together. • It puts life into perspective. • It’s a natural part of us that makes us feel good, improving our mood. • It brightens our day. • Laughing is always a positive experience. • We feel a sense of relief after laughing. • It allows us to be in the moment. • And it lightens our burdens, inspiring hope... Laughter is such a great feeling and one of the most positive things we can experience. It’s minor but it can push you forward without planning. I don’t often think about it, but when I do, I realise that I really love to laugh and sharing and experiencing it with others is a wonderful thing. So, don’t deny laughter. Seek it out and let it stay with you as long as it likes. There will still be tears, but there can also be lots of laughs to come. Laugh at yourself and look for the funny around you. There can be lots of funny things, right in front of us, when we remind ourselves to look for them. Every day, make a conscious effort to seek some fun, look at your surroundings through a lens of humor and you’ll be amazed at what you find. There is a humorous side to everyone and that includes you too! Here is a link I would recommend to help get you started to bring back some more laughter in your life.
