4EASYSTEPSTOFINDINGYOURPASSIONS 4 Easy steps to finding your passions by Julie Furlong “To find out what one is fitted to do, and to secure an opportunity to do it, is the key to happiness.” – John Dewey The real purpose of anyone’s life is to be fully engaged in living and embracing it. Sometimes, it’s hard to work out what you feel passionate about and what you truly love doing. Because this is hard to identify, many people just go with the flow and live life on auto pilot. Something is missing but they don’t really end up spending much time searching for it. On the other hand, some of us go out and actively seek it. For me, I’m a seeker. I am constantly trying and doing new things. Occasionally they develop further into a passion, and sometimes they don’t. The reality is, your passions will change all the time. The challenge is, we have to keep evolving and keep exploring to find them along the way. Then if we are fortunate enough to be aware of them and have the exposure, we can pursue them. The important thing is that you remain open, get out of your comfort zone and try new things – that is the only way you will find your passions. If you are feeling a bit lost, or if something is missing, perhaps it is time to explore some hobbies. This of course will ultimately lead to your passions, creating the recipe for a life filled with purpose. How do you find your passion and turn it into something meaningful? YOUR HEART IS YOUR BEST TOOL TO ASSESS YOUR TRUE PURPOSE AND PASSION. INSIDE YOU SOMEWHERE, LIES YOUR PASSION, YOU JUST NEED TO FIND THE WAYS TO UNCOVER IT. TO GET STARTED TRY TO;

1. Ignore and forget about the ‘dream thieves’ you currently have or have had in your life. 2. Do plenty of self-reflection - this thought process will help you move forward. 3. Listen to others and brainstorm to help find where your passions may lie. 4. Start doing and adapt strategies to help you uncover and work on your purpose.

Ignore and forget about the dream thieves ‘Dream Thieves’… you know who they are! People who have negative things to say about you, what you are doing or would like to do - they are dream thieves. Identify who they are and stay clear. This might mean getting them out of your life, or if you can’t, simply by just ignoring them. Surround yourself with nice, kind and positive people. You are the company that you keep, and for most of the time it is your own company so make sure you try your hardest to like that too. Do the things you love doing. Self-reflection - do the thought work Take some time to think honestly and openly about where you are currently at in your life. By continually doing this, you’ll set a path for what you would like to continue to do in the future. I am always asking myself, am I where you want to be? Have I accomplished all I thought I would have by now? What other things can I do or learn? What do I get excited about and like doing?

Brainstorm and listen to others It’s all about brainstorming - talk about your ideas in whatever format that works for you. Discussing your passion and purpose with those around you. If you don’t talk about what you’re thinking about doing, it will never happen. When you verbalise things it becomes clearer to you. Listen to others and start conversations with new people outside your immediate social circle. There is nothing more refreshing than talking to people who come from different backgrounds and walks of life and learning about new things from them. This will open your eyes to new activities, and opportunities and ultimately build stronger social networks for you. Adapt the strategies This means taking steps towards what you want, and removing those things in your life that you don’t want. Stop procrastinating and start doing. So instead of overthinking it, have a go, jump in and try new things; the more you act, the more you get clear on things. Stop resisting the unknown and engage. Once you are clear about what you want then start working by developing your talents. By doing the things that you think you might like, you will be inspired and gain insights into what brings you the most pleasure. Believing what you do is worthwhile, it’s definitely the tool for a better, happier and healthier life. We are always trying to find that ONE thing that we are meant to do. Forget about thinking there is only one purpose for you and embrace the idea that there will be many things and they also change and evolve along the way. To lead a purposeful life, follow your passions. When we live a passion-filled life we are living on purpose. Never give up, failure is part of learning. It is all about believing in it.
