IDAHO WRITING CAMPS Idaho Writing Camps nurture the imagination and awaken the senses through creative adventures in the art of writing. The Cabin’s award-winning writing camps offer inspirational experiences for youth going into grades 3-12, as well as adults. AT IDAHO WRITING CAMPS YOU WILL: LEARN from a professional writer who fully understands the creative tools needed to compose great writing. IMMERSE yourself in places and experiences that tap inspiration. FIND a new writing community and other people who share a love of writing. SHARE your writing at the end of your camp session in a public reading. PUBLISH your writing in an Idaho Writing Camps publication and take a copy home.

Engage in play that stimulates the five senses, sparks creativity and encourages new paths to writing imaginative poems and stories. Students explore nearby parks, the rose garden, the library, and take a field trip to the zoo for inspiration.
Time: AM (9 am - noon) or PM (1 pm - 4 pm) Dates: June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26

Discover how art, music, and nature inform your imagination. Learn to write stories and poems that are singular, creative and express the thoughts within. Experience writing in an art museum, a history museum and along the Boise River.
Time: AM (9 am - noon) or PM (1 pm - 4 pm) Dates: June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26

Immerse yourself in nearby cultural attractions, parks, and the downtown scene in search of community events and information. Chronicle your findings in op-ed pieces as well as hard hitting news reports while you learn about the different ways journalism can tell a story.

Investigate the connection between visual arts and the written word. Discover how to produce art that shows and tells through field trips to local arts resources, exposure to art and writing that rests on the intersection between the two, and creative projects such as making collages and writing and illustrating comics and graphic novels.
Time: PM (1 pm - 4 pm) Dates: July 29-August 2, August 5-9
OFF BROADWAY
Learn about characters, dialogue, plot, and scenes and how it all works together when writing a play. With the guidance of a local playwright, and inspirational visits to a local theater company, compose plays that go from the page to the stage. Time: PM (1 pm - 4 pm)

Explore cityscapes, coffee shops, public art, and urban life. Interact with Boise’s downtown to inspire unique characters and settings for stories as well as poetry rooted in observation.

THE WORKSHOP
GRADES 10-12
Work alongside a professional fiction writer and a professional poet for two weeks as they share the techniques that get them writing. Work together toward a new level of understanding and creation through outstanding examples, new skills, and sharing work with others in a workshop setting.

The Cabin offers a once a month drop-in workshop available free to writers in the community who want to hone their skills, overcome writers block, discover new ideas for character development, and realize new approaches to the creative process.
