‘LINECTION’ (LINEAR CONNECTION) The “Linection” project is based on the design of complex multi-use and public spaces that aspire to upgrade the level of tourism and merchandised activities within the harbour of Barcelona, Spain. This particular concept consists of stages starting from an urban configuration of paths of traffic to the degraded port, the restoration of existing industrial facilities of the surrounding area as well as the reconstruction of catering areas. The dining areas and the local “Market of Mediterranean Flavours” are the main focus of the subsequent Architectural Project. The current development resides within an existing square along with a public space intending to aesthetically adapt the new building envelope into the existing structure.

‘ ANAPLASIS OF A COASTAL HORIZON ’ (THESIS)

Anaplasis of a Coastal Horizon is an urban project that takes place in the town of Heraklion, Crete. Heraklion is full of historical landmarks that possess industrial characteristics that monuments of the past seem to emerge from its heavy and dense urban tissue. In addition, the density of the area and issues of accessing the main city from the port due to poor urban connections with the coast imposes a disturbing disorientation for the public that visit the island for their first time.

The concept follows an intense urban force that is able to create a journey where one does not need to follow a blue line on a touch screen device to arrive at a destination. In fact, this can be achieved with an appropriate urban route and design that leads to the various spectacles.

The project of ‘The anaplasis of a coastal horizon’ intends to give a continuity to the neglected waterfronts by the construction of a promenade that passes from the most important landmarks that are situated along the coastline and has three main destinations to be analised and revitalised. The other phase of this project includes the creation of urban paths that give a bond with the town and arrive to specific stations of great significance thanks to their historical value.

REGENERATION AND RETROFITTING OF SUBURBAN SUPERBLOCKS This project, located in Naples, focuses on the application of Sustainable Technologies for an Existing Superblock and the further development of an additional Residential Complex that replaces the existing accommodation to facilitate the revitalisation of the surrounding neighbourhood. The project begins with the configuration of a new building that enables access from the West to the East of the Superblock. In addition, this is achieved by breaking the Superblock into three parts and by adding new in a way to create 3 residential blocks that work as one residential community of courtyards. The Sustainable Technologies applied on both the existing building and the new residences are based on Photovoltaics, Shading Panel System, Natural Cross Ventilation, Green Roofs, Water management System as well as ‘cooling’ rainwater channels. All the above aiming to significantly assist with the regeneration of a post war industrial superblock.
