PORTFOLIO JULIETTE BROUCKE

HI, I’M JULIETTE I’m an enthusiastic product designer with a passion for all things sustainable. I found this passion after trying out a dozen hobbies, ranging from playing the flute, over drawing school, to photography lessons. Trying to discover my own path in high school, I enrolled into the editorial and writers team for the school magazine, helped to write and direct a science show and travelled to Poland for a five-day exchange on the culture and traditions of different European countries. When graduation day arrives and I’m handed my diploma in maths and sciences, I decide to take an alternative route that brings me to product development at the University of Antwerp, combining theoretical knowledge with creative challenges. During the first years of university, I discover the world of eco-design and sustainability. This passion further develops as I search for ways to interact with like-minded people. I start an eco-inspired blog and create a Facebook-group concerning ethical fashion, which both lead me to falling into a world where I now live by my values, design with intent and proudly call myself an eco-holic.

PARFAIT

a sleek and luxurious cherry pitter in collaboration with Leen Clavie, Eline Cools, Tine Van Loo

objective

Develop a brand identity for kitchen tools. Choose a name, create its logo and a brand identity guide. Design a product family of kitchen tools that encorporates the brand’s identity and showcases its values.

result

PARFAIT is a luxury kitchen brand for passionate cooks. Combining quality and honesty with elegance and refinement, PARFAIT focuses on giving the user a divine kitchen experience. PARFAIT’s design principles are based on these four brand values. Clean and simple lines are incorporated in the design of its products, while still maintaining a feeling of elegance and high quality.

BRAND IDENTITY GUIDE > Strak

EEnvOUdiG

LILY

an elegant desk light objective

Design and make a lamp shade, built around a USB LED-strip, using polypropylene as a material.

result

LILY is a flower-shaped lamp inspired by (water)lilies. A clever attachment system incorporates a circular USB LED-light with the polypropylene lamp, while shaping the inner leaves.

PIXIE

an out-of-the-box interactive camera and projector-set in collaboration with Leen Clavie

objective

Design a camera and projector-set that focuses on user experience. Choose a target audience and make every action that the user has to undertake meaningful and intuitive.

result

This out-of-the-box camera and projector concept focuses strongly on the interaction with its user. After taking a photo, a button immediately pops up where the user decides whether to keep or discard the photo. Photos are transferred to the projector by combining the two parts. The camera perfectly completes the projector’s shape, boosting the products ease of use. With young adventurers as a target audience, this camera and projector-set is perfect for travel because of its compact design, ease of use and ability to project on nearly any surface.

NEISTAT

a personal container for filmmaker Casey Neistat in collaboration with Leen Clavie

objective

Design a container that can hold five personal belongings, tailored to meet the needs of a chosen target audience or person.

result

This personal container holds an SD-card, a camera battery, a boosted board controller, a jackknife and a photograph: five items that filmmaker and YouTuber Casey Neistat carries with him on a daily basis. Each item has its own compartment and can easily be reached. The personal container is compact and can be attached to a belt.

FOAM MODELLING binoculars - asthma inhaler - card reader objective

Make a pair of Art Deco-styled binoculars, a uniquely shaped asthma inhaler that holds two set volumes and a card reader, inspired by the adjectives ‘sharp’ and ‘aggressive’, out of blue foam.

result

I wanted to incorporate the feeling of Art Deco glamour in my binoculars by making the front asymmetric and extravagant. Bold structures and irregularly shaped steps make up the frontpiece of the binoculars. Subtle details on the side, top and back complete the design. I chose to design an organicly shaped asthma inhaler with lots of nice curves, because I wanted to step away from the stereotypical tube-like look of inhalers that are currently on the market. A lot of sanding and smoothing by hand was involved in order to achieve a clean and polished surface finish. The card reader is intended to look aggressive, while still having a straightforward and clear opening for the card.

BLUETOOTH SPEAKER solidworks modelling objective Design a bluetooth speaker and model the shape in SolidWorks.

result I designed a unique speaker that resembles an amplifier. The hole in the middle makes the product appear light and dynamic.

INTERNATIONAL DESIGN WEEK deployable roof

in collaboration with Leen Clavie, Eline Cools, Cassandra Pysson, Tine Vande Verre, Tine Van Loo workshop given by Roland Fuhrmann

objective

Design and build a deployable structure that will be showcased during the exposition on the last day of the International Design Week of 2018.

result

Inspired by the principle of a hoberman sphere, our team designed a deployable roof structure. We made a scale model of the roof, that is foldable and can be turned into a smaller, easier to transport construction. Hundreds of pieces were laser cut and put together using split pins. The design and model was made during the five day International Design Week in february of 2018.

NUT MILK MACHINE a semi-industrial nut milk maker objective Design a machine that can produce a homemade nut milk, a plant based alternative to cow’s milk.

result This nut milk maker is an integrated stand-alone solution that, apart from the preparation of the ingredients, requires no further help of the user in order to produce a 20 litre batch of plant based milk. The machine is designed for small businesses such as bakeries, coffee houses and cafÊs. The nut milk maker is used in the kitchen of the business, out of customers’ sight.
