DOUBLE EXPOSURE Double exposure is the superimposition of two pictures to create a single image. I combined a portrait of a model and a picture of the night sky using Adobe Photoshop. First, I created a layer mask to change the background to make it a solid color: gray. Afterwards, I added a new layer with the picture of the sky and changed the blending mode to “lighten”. I used the “eraser” tool to erase any areas on the portrait that I didn’t want the sky to show through (i.e. on her face and her neck). Finally, I adjusted the colors of the sky with levels and curves.

DUOTONE Duotone is halftone reproduction of an image using the superimposition of one color over another color, similar to double exposure. For the project, I used Adobe Photoshop. First, I used the selection tool and eraser tool to erase the background around the boys. Afterwards, I adjusted the levels to change the picture to black and white, and then added two adjustment layers with the two colors on each. I changed the blending mode of one layer to “multiply” and to “lighten” for the other layer. Finally, I added a light yellow border and text.

EVENT FLYER Flyers help promote events, businesses, clubs etc. Using Adobe Photoshop. I created this flyer for a fictional album release party event. This layout, which I had created from scratch, is based around the image I picked. I wanted the picture the main focus so I adjusted the size to fit about 3/4 of the page. Then, I put five text layers with tones of blue to make the header eye-catching. In between the two lines, I included basic information about the event (e.g. date, time, address, etc.)

IMAGE IN TEXT Image in Text is a creative effect that can be used on posters, flyers, etc. For this project, I began by finding and opening the two photos of Paris into Adobe Photoshop. I added a new text layer and created a clipping mask so that one of the pictures appeared on the text. I readjusted the position and scale of both photos—the one in the text and the one in the background—so that it would look nice. I created a second “Image in Text” project because I wanted to see what it would look like if I aligned the Effiel Tower in the text with another one in the background.

TYPOGRAPHY PORTRAIT For the Typography Portrait project, I decided to do one of Robert Downey Jr. Using Adobe Photoshop, I began by making copy of the photo layer. Next, I typed a quote from him and placed the text layer under the top layer. Similar to the Image in Text project, I created a clipping mask on the first layer of the image so that the image would appear in the text. Then, I added a white rectangle on the left side so that you could see the text. I also used levels and curves to adjust this black and white portrait’s highlights and shadows.

ILLUSTRATION
For this Illustration, I first sketched out a design on a piece of paper before uploading a picture of the sketch into Adobe Illustrator. Using the pen tool, I used vectors to outline the rough sketch, creating this illustration of a boy wearing a hat. I adjusted the color of this illustration so that it was different shades of gray and then added different shades of yellow to the shadow to make it stand out. I wanted to make it simple and minimalistic so I didn’t include any details for facial features. This project helped me practice creating a picture by using only shapes, lines, and color.

TEXT EFFECTS
For this project, I practiced using different text effects. For the American Horror Story project, I used bevel & emboss to make the text come out, and contour and texture tools to adjust the color of the shadow. For Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I created a retro themed text by creating a text border, adding shadow facing inward, and adding a bevel and emboss behind the text to make it look like the text is coming up. For Sherlock, I used the gradient tool and added a shadow. For Hill House and Stranger Things, I made the text look like neon signs by using bevel and emboss, inner glow, and inner shadow to create the color and highlight that reflects the light. I finished thoses by using the brush tool to paint the text shadow in the background. I created these in Adobe Photoshop.

LOGO
A logo is used to promote a company and helps the customers recognize the brand. I created a fictional jewelry business called Rose Jewelry and designed this logo for it. The design was inspired by the rose in Beauty and Beast. I wanted to make the logo minimalistic so I used the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator to create simple shapes and lines to make the rose and container.

ILLUSTRATION (RICHARD DAVIES INSPIRED) We looked at some of Richard Davies’ works for inspiration for this project. First, I connected the drawing tablet to the computer and opened the photo I’m using into Adobe Photoshop. With a brush tool, I smudged the picture a little to make it look like a painting. I then added various brush strokes in various colors to the the corners to make the photo stand out more.

BOOK COVER
I created a cover for the book “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Jenny Han. In the book, the main character’s love letters get sent out. To incorporate that into the design, I created an envelope on the front cover and a letter in the back cover in Adobe Illustrator. Instead of using text, I wrote the book title out with a drawing tablet and added doodles to make the cover more interesting. I also included pictures from the movie to fill any empty spaces. I wanted the cover to come off as a “lighthearted teen romance” book.

ALBUM COVER
I created a cover for BTS’s Love Yourself: Answer Album. For the front cover, I put portraits of the BTS members in a grid like format. To fill the empty slots on the corners, I included “love yourself ” and added the heart since the songs from the album were mainly focused on loving yourself. Like what I did to the heart on the front, for the back cover, I made the edges of the pink square and the group picture look like they were ripped. Then I listed the tracks from the album.
