CTP OF MATA DE LIMÓN
The project is located in Mata de Limón, near the port of Caldera in Puntarenas, and consists of a Professional Technical School for a lower-class fishing community, in order to generate prosperity and talent in the community’s youth.
The proposal presents the main challenge of generating educational architecture in a land facing the sea; Therefore, its design must take into account the characteristics of the site such as high temperatures, sea breezes and salinity, maintaining human comfort and the link with various natural factors.

Location
The land is located in front of Route 23 in front of the Old Caldera Railway Station, and its position allows it to generate a design that takes advantage of the direction of the sun and sea breezes to generate greater shading and cross ventilation.

The spatial distribution consists of 3 buildings unified by a single circulation route surrounded by green areas.

The central block is the one that receives the project with a central backyard that distributes the circulation to the other blocks, in which there is a single nucleus of bathrooms, the computer room, the multipurpose room, warehouse, teachers’ room and administrative offices.
The classroom blocks and the social block made up of the gym, the dining room and the stage are located at the ends of the project in order to separate the areas with the greatest noise by positioning the central block and the green areas with sound neutralizer.
Designing educational spaces in small land in front of the coast implies generating openings for indirect lighting and ventilation through horizontal parasols such as overhangs in windows that are at the height of the students in a sitting position and in the corridors, accompanied by vegetation to purify the air, monitors that allow the exit of hot air and a concrete materiality that helps keep the interiors cool and does not deteriorate due to environmental factors in the area.
