LINE Description: The goal for this project was to create a series of two dimensional drawings with Adobe Illustrator. The drawings were created using different effects/affects and also a range of consistency and repetition, these drawings were completely abstract.

Undulated + Stitched Lines

PROCESS Description: Process sketches studying different ways circles could interact to make a 2D composition taken from sketchbook.

COLOR Description: Using the same principles as in the “Line” project, another series of drawings was created but this time I used a clear, curated color palette that could be addressed independent of it’s deployment.

SURFACE Description: The purpose of this project was to create an understanding of figure/field relationships to speculate on the limits of minimal enclosure and create something unexpected by doing the same thing over and over again.

Description: For this project I sustained specified consistency coming from the previous projects, while allowing variation ocurring from working with different media in a single process.

COMMUNITYGATHERING Description: Creating a spatial sequence that has two defined spaces, an entrance and a gathering space that would provide seating for a variety of group sizes.

Concept: To create a space that would draw peoples attention and bring them into the space. The entrance would be marked by a memorable series of arcs and a walkway with voids on the side creating a unique entrance to a relaxing space.

SPATIALSEQUENCE Description:

Concept:

To create three outdoor spaces that provide seating in a creative way specifically for spring, summer and fall all connected by a main path.

Each space was designed to have public and semi-private areas where people can sit if they want privacy or if they are simply enjoying the day, the spaces were visually connected by having a curved roof supported by diagonal beams..

NATURE MATERIALS OF

Concept:

To create an abstract sculpture based on a building from a list of various widely recognized projects around the world. The Sculpture could be made out of any materials and could not be heavier than 200 pounds and taller than the average human. My choice was The City of Arts and Sciences by Santiago Calatrava in Valencia, Spain.

Wood

Concrete

Metal

Wood with incrusted shards of glass represents the previously dry, undesirable site. Concrete and Metal represent the development of Calatravas architecturally “organic” project.

An article about the site of The City of Arts and Sciences mentioned how the project brought new focus to the previously incoherent, underdeveloped dry bed of the Turia River. The concept was to make a tree-like sculpture not only to reference Calatravas famous stylistics but also to show how the site grew and changed from being a dry and not very desirable site to a new and very popular place amongs Valencians.

INSPIRATIONSCOLLAGE Description:

Concept:

Explore the question “where do ideas come from?” Then create a collage of images, drawings, sketches and text from inspiring Architectural examples in downtown Chicago.

Based on my 3 favorite photographs, I created a 24”x24” field that translates Rythym, Dynamism and Repetition by having a series of equally sized squares, each at a different height, creating a wave like effect.

PRECEDENTSTUDY Description: To research a selected work of an architect and create a three dimensional presentation board inspired by the concepts of the selected work. The board could be no larger than 24” x 26” x 6” and find plans, sections, elevations and 3D representations that could be reproduced.

Concept: Based on the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, Washington by Weiss/Manfredi I created a board that translated the architects idea of connections made by exaggerated triangular shapes. concept diagram from Weiss/Manfredi

INSPIRATIONSCOLLAGE

SECOND STUDY

Description:

Explore the question “where do ideas come from?” Then create a three-dimensional collage of images, drawings, sketches and text from inspiring Architectural examples in downtown Chicago.

Concept: The city of Chicago is very layered with hundreds of years of history and Architecture and through those years when you focus on the details you can start seeing things that you would’t normally see unless paid attention and explored around the city. However walking around Chicago is a very overwhelming experience and I wanted to show that by having the inside part of the project reflected on mirrors so that you would get a little of that overwhelming feeling you feel while walking in Chicago.

Beautiful Material Wood: Wood is beautiful because it is very flexible in it’s uses and I have seen wood used in very unique ways.

Found Object Rusted metal: I loved this piece of metal because it remainded me of the industrial beginning of Chicago

LIGHTWALL Description: Group Project: Julio Herrera, Amanda Wagner, Gino Allegrini, Ben Stefely. To design a space that creates a sense of place through the modulation of natural daylight, the space should be unique and create a poetic interaction with the occupant and the natural daylight. The space was to be 10’ wide by 15’ tall.

Concept:

Our intentions were to create a space that would feel alive and welcoming. Using colors and patterns created on the floor and walls was a main factor to make a space that was active and playful and that interacts with the people. The colors used changed by the season creating a warmer space in the winter and a cooler space in the summer.

URBANINFILL

Description: The purpose of the Urban Infill project was to design an art gallery in Chicago. The site given provided a challenge because of its triangular shape and proximity to the metro. The buildings program had to include management office space, an Installation gallery, three permanent galleries. (vertical, horizontal and a small objects gallery). The program was also to include a studio and a residence for an artist to live on-site.

SITE LOCATION IN RELATION TO CITY

ZOOMED IN SITE LOCATION

Concept: With the design of this building I created a form that uses intricate movement to peek curiosity and provide continual view to the artwork. One of the main features of the building is the structural glass wall facing the street. The glass let’s you see in to the vertical gallery which appears to be floating in the middle of the building.

PROCESS SKETCHES

The front of the building catches the publics attention by being completely welcoming and visible from the street. The structural glass wall let’s you peek into the gallery provoking interest.

BRADYMARKET

Description: This project focused on designing a Public Market for the historic Brady Street in the city of Milwaukee. the Market was to activate the less active end of the street and provide public spaces for people to experience a varied array of activities.

Concept: The design provides a series of places for visitors to enjoy the market in different ways. The flow throught the market is very active, which means that it tries to connect every spot in the building by providing a visual to the next place. This causes people to be in constant exploration of the market. The program Includes a square that can be seen and accessed from Brady Street. This square provides room for an outdoor market as well as activities such as concerts, outdoor movies, Ice skating and many more community enhancing activities. The roof of the building provides a Sculpture garden and views to the city and the square.

The facade design made using the same brick material as the exterior provides shading inside and helps with the concept of constant movement

KERN PARKELEMENTARY

Description: The intention of the Kern Park Elementary Project was to design a Kindergarden to 6th grade school in the neighborgood of RiverWest in Milwaukee. The site presented the challange of very uneven tophography so we had to find a way to make the site work for a school. The program of the project included a libray, gym, art classrooms amongs other things.

Concept: The design provides very continual movement for the students. It does this by having a series of ramps that make the movement more clear. At the stop of every ramp the students would find themselves in an important space, wether it be the Libray, Cafeteria or Gym the spaces are very defined by solid walls that run thru the building making the experience of walking on the ramps to spaces very fun and active.
