ffering a new typology HKBP Church of Batak Toba ethnicity is one of the message from this Church. Transformed from modern Batak House, it seen as a silhouette and expected to be an icon and landmark. The building has a box shape because of the limited site and environment condition especially the existing trees and old heritage building (to be preserved then used as an office). The stand of new and old building is a dialogue and leave a message that the church is friendly and has a concern to city history. Existing trees and building are two important point in design process. An open space placed between the old and new building just like Batak Toba community

characteristic. The original space at Batak Toba village called ‘Alaman’ used as an interaction space every day. This new alaman will used as daily activity and interaction space. Most of building shape and detail transformed from value of Batak Toba culture and Christian, combined as a new interesting innovation.

side. I create a symbol of Alfa & Omega on the fasade by ripping some pattern. So when sun light come through this ripped pattern from the outside, we can see that symbol from the inside. And when the lamp light from inside the building through this patters, we got that symbol from the outside. Alfa & Omega is a symbol of Jesus as the beginning and the end.

Building Facade designed by adding modern ‘gorga’ (a carving pattern from Batak Toba). The pattern is modular and it has modi ed so that look like leaves. It re ect as a shadow of the existing tree in front of the building (but the tree die before the building completely nish) This fasade has a different face from another

The interior dominated visually with acoustic panel on the wall and plafond. The panel on the plafond has a gap as the air ow. A Cross in the altar designed with a triangle pattern aimed to the center to give people a focus to the center, to God. There is a rip on the brown surface as a symbol of glowing cross. 8

his church offering a new typology for a tropical Batak church with a high and large roof which to anticipate the climate and environmental conditions. In general, the typology of ethnic communities Batak church is kind of like a church building in the German countryside (derived from the missionaries who spread Christianity in Batak communities), which has a high roof and bell tower on the front side. This typology is now applied in the whole HKBP church building in Indonesia, both in urban and rural areas, nor cool highland and humid seaside areas.

EXTERIOR VIEW

The church design typology tries to criticize it and make design based on 'dialogue' with the environment and the Batak communities. The churches in the city generally, has a complex space which is suitable for heterogeneous and pluralistic society in the city. The church is expected to be a good public space for the community without compromising privacy that society. Architecture of ‘rumah panggung’ shaped like a ship. This is the main idea of the relationship of the main building and courtyard. Outer space and garden areas were designed to be a space of social interaction, such as in the traditional village of Batak Toba.

amsoba Eco-Resort is a governance project. It is 2400 sqm area located on the seashore of Wamsoba. The local government have an idea to create an recreational, educational and commercial eco resort and preserve some local vegetation at the site. They want us to design a master plan of this resort area. TOILET

NEW PATH TO THE BEACH

We have to separate the construction in 3 phases based on the fund ceiling. The 1st phase is recreational and community empowering zone (to serve the people), the 2nd is commercial zone, and the 3rd is nature preservation & amenity core as educational area.

But in fact, because of fund limits we have to separate the 1st phase into some small step. The main idea of the design is using local material. This is a growing district that on going to improve the infrastructure and need to cut the edge of mountain to create the road. Then the residue in form of stone used as the building envelope. We create a box shape with some slant. The screwpine/ pandanus tectoricus grow around the area. The leaf is the inspiration of the main gate installation.

ocated on the middle of a residential area in Bekasi. The presence of big trees in the region can provide freshness in the middle of a residential area that tend to be dense and dry. Being in 2,550 m2 of land, vertically optimized design of buildings. 4 storeys building is designed to accommodate the specialty stores and retail stores. The building is designed exibly so that owners can rent a whole building to one tenant or rented

separately per unit shop. This design would like to give a "new vocabulary" in a commercial building typology. The building is designed as an open gallery. To maintain a human scale to the building, between oors of buildings connected by a ramp. Activities so that shopping becomes more relaxed. This walk is very rare experienced by urban society.

17

Using vertical garden on the building facade, the building is formed like a large tree. In addition to a positive visual eect on the region, the presence of big trees also expected to give positive eect on the microclimate surrounding area is lled with shops and residential areas.

he project is a renovation project with an extension of the hotel, adding cottages, and a convention for 1000 person. and the overall concept is to bring the toraja’s culture upfront. The heritage area (tongkonan and alang) is located in front of the hotel and

convention building in order to be the icon of the hotel, while the hotel and convention set as the background of the tongkonan and alang. The background is inspired by the mountains/hills of kartz Toraja. The long and dominating facade of the hotel and convention is 20

treated by vertical gardens with toraja pattern. The heritage area also used as a buer zone from the main road and private areas. There is an extension area for cottages on the back of the hotel, facing the

mountains and hills of toraja. The swimming pool area is also used as a center point from the cottages, convention, and hotel area.

Project Brief tar of David is a philosophy of Camp David Church/ Gereja Kristen Kemah Daud (GKKD). The roof shape as the main building envelope itself inspired from that symbol. The small church roof inspired from the shape of the camp. The main and small church’s roof designed as a response of tropical climate. It’s have a low overstek as a anticipation from high rainfall. The building design separately and connected to create an open space in-between as inner court. There are so many residue material wasted around the area. The material is concrete tile. Another available material that can use in that region are stone and wood.

he design brief is to revitalize the whole area Tegalega Park. There is a negative image of this park. It is a large park with 19 ha area. The entire area is dirty and dark in the night with a poor lighting and danger. Moreover, there is an impression for this place was for prostitution activity. Human activity spotted only at the pool (on the right existing), and the night market (on the left existing). Beside that, this a historical park of Bandung. There is a 45m tall monument called ‘Bandung Sea of Fire Monument’. All participant asks for some idea to make this park better than before and lift the history up. So we propose a Revival concept which is playful and open. We try to create spatial space and sequence so people can play with the park, do sport, break the some ‘grid’ physically but keep it straight visually

esign brief is to create a new tourist and education destination point at Kelok 9 area. Kelok 9 area is a main road that connect West Sumatra and Riau Region. ‘Kelok’ means meanders. There is a new bridge as a new shortcut to pass the Kelok9 point. The design proposes that the bridge will be the only way cars can access. So we can avoid a traffic at the meanders. We engage visitors to use a cable car, cycling and walking. ‘Alam takambang jadi guru’ means that we can learn a lot from the nature is the main concept of the design. The idea is to preserve the nature and make it as an education area itself. The landscape is being untouched as possible, with minimizing new structures and using existing road as the tourist attraction, not building a new one. The main kelok 9 road used as walking gallery. The design create a system so the visitors have to leave their car or motorcycle at the parking area, then they have to walk, cycling or use a cable car to enjoy the nature attraction at the open museum or at the interpretation deck. That system can be reduce the use of vehicle at kelok 9 main road. The cottages and offices for education and administration purposes are located in the lower contour and blended with the nature.
