I was part of a team that pursued a design-build competition where we successfully won a continuing care centre for the city of Fort McMurray. The project focused on a human-centric design that sought to create an environment that moved away from an institutionalized facility to one that is comforting and home-like. The project construction is expected to be completed in 2020. MY ROLE I produced the drawings and materials for the design presentations, including diagrams, plans, elevations, through to development permit application. I worked closely with the Interior Design team and produced a number of interior construction drawings, such as millwork details and reflected ceiling plans. The project was created using Revit and was fully coordinated through BIM 360. CONSULTANT INFORMATION
MY ROLE I assisted the senior architect starting from pre-design to site analysis, and then to programming, organising client, consultant, and stakeholder meetings. I researched zoning bylaws and land use requirements. Working with the client, I developed the program and prepared site test fits and site layout options. I compiled and produced a master plan document compiling two year’s worth of information. The project is in its first phase of the development permit process for the first building.

SPITZEE-CROSSING OFFICE BUILDING POST-OCCUPANCY EVALUATION | HIGH RIVER, ALBERTA CLIENT | ALBERTA INFRASTRUCTURE S2 ARCHITECTURE | 2019

SPITZEE-CROSSING POST-OCCUPANCY EVALUATION I had to opportunity to take on two post-occupancy evaluations while at S2. The first being a public office building in the town of High River. The second a K-9 School in Leduc. Both experiences provided valuable insight into two different building types and identified functional issues post-construction for new buildings that have been occupied for one or two years. The evaluations were a high level assessment of the overall design and functionality of the building. Data collection through various methods (observation, surveys, interviews, drawing review) were used to identify issues and determine possible causes. A comprehensive report was produced to document findings and recommendations as the final deliverable. MY ROLE I performed site reviews and collected data, administered surveys and interviews. I reviewed existing drawings and worked within a 2 to 3 person team to write, and provide recommendations. I designed the report template and compiled the document as the final deliverable to the client. MOSAIC PARK DESIGN-BUILD COMPETITION I independently pursued a design-build competition for the installation of a parklet in Edmonton’s popular Whyte Avenue. The concept for the design was to construct modular hexagonal pieces that could be stacked to create playful seating, and planter boxes. The design was two parking stalls in length and required the consideration of sustainability while providing a functional space for various uses and programming. This project was submitted to URB PRK’s design-build competition in 2016 in collaboration with Sophia Juan. The project received an honorable mention. MY ROLE In collaboration with another teammate, we designed, modeled, rendered, and produced all the diagrams and drawings to represent our concept for submission. We sourced and budgeted the materials and tools for the installation and planned out a construction schedule and the logistics to build the parklet. AGING IN PLACE LANEWAY HOUSE As a design-build, this evidence-based research studio offered a unique challenge to design and construct a 400 ft2 laneway house on a standard 50 ft wide Calgary residential lot. This project tackled three challenges: designing a small compact home, advocating for secondary-suites in Calgary, and supporting alternative seniors’ housing in the context of an aging population. In collaboration with medical researchers, and developers, the project team integrated design strategies that supported aging in place such as: a continuous custom support rail, toe-kick dimmable lighting system, integrated tele-health monitoring, and optimized floor plan that utilized the washroom as a flexible corridor when not in use. This layout also provided a division of private and public space, with bedroom and living quarters partitioned to maximize livability in a constrained space.

The Hillhurst multifamily co-operative housing project introduces a mixed-use, shared residential building into an existing Calgary inner-city community. Through scale and orientation, the building respects its location next to the Hillhurst United Church and uses this unique context as a primary design influence. The concept of co-housing was introduced to provide an alternative to the western perspective of privacy and individualism, much like how a church provides a place for people to come together. The development seeks to embrace social activity and provide a place for people to extend their community more actively into their own homes. As a four-storey residence, the design of the building features shared communal spaces with a mixed-use commercial strip along the street front to create an active street edge. An inner courtyard visibly connects the church while adding public space for people to gather. The Hillhurst co-housing residence was conceived as a mass carved from the center to open up towards the church, with stepped roof terraces and an internal open corridor for circulation as well as sociability. To create a diverse neighbourhood, various unit types were designed to accommodate a range of family types and sizes, and residents at all stages of life. The Hillhurst development fosters neighbourly connections, changing the small things—the habits, like how you leave your house—to create more social interactions and ultimately a stronger and more vital community. MY ROLE As a foundation studio project, I designed, modeled, and produced all the graphics and drawings. Presentation materials, including board layout, digital slides and report document design were also produced as part of the final deliverables. RETHINKING URBAN FOOD CULTURE The Food Lab Research Institute is a community hub for people to explore and promote the way food is made, sourced, and supplied. It is a combined centre for research, education and environmental engagement. Located at the corner of 9th Avenue and 11th Street SW, the 3-storey, 2100 m2 research institute stands prominently and serves as an important gateway into the Calgary downtown.
C
The design of the building is conceived as a cantilevering mass that intersects an organic form, weaving, itself, in and out of the building. Both forms serve to support each other, representing the coexistence of our built and natural environment. This formal statement serves to reflect not only the programming of the food lab, but also society’s interdependent relationship with nature.

MAKECALGARY GRAPHIC DESIGN MY ROLE I was hired on a research assistant for the makeCalgary initiative in the Faculty of Environmental Design (now known as SAPL or School of Architecture, Landscape, and Planning). I assisted in designing and branding the initiative, as well as redeveloped a custom website to showcase student and faculty resesearch projects. I continued on in the position during the length of my master of architecture to manage the site, as well as, produced a number of graphic assets and collateral for the faculty. Some of which include the Design Matters posters, faculty program brochures, donor plaque, installation of a faculty bio wall, and various other projects and events at the faculty. I also worked closely with the faculty staff, the Dean, as well as the Director of Development to produce material to support the faculty's funding and sponsorship iniatives. APPLIED SKILLS

SCENTED PRODUCT DESIGN An exploration into scent and fragrance design became an experimental project in creating home fragrances and skin care products. From candles to lotions, this experimental project became a prototype for a full product line. Branding and packaging provided a fresh feel with playful shapes and modern text.
