KOLON FUTURE RESEARCH PARK
at MORPHOSIS Architects DD/CD (COMPLETED)
Program : Headquater + Research lab Location : Magok district, Seoul,Korea Role : Project Designer Vertical and Horizontal Common Space, Interior Space
Kolon Industries exemplifies the contemporary model for innovation. The headquarters is located in the Magok district, an emerging hub for tech and industry that is revitalizing the Han-River area in south-eastern Seoul. Engaging a large public park to the west of the site, the form of the Headquarters floats above a transparent ground plane that extends the landscape to draw light and movement into the interior. Brand stores and exhibition galleries at street level express the Kolon’s vision of sustainability and innovation to the public. To create an environment that supports innovation and encourages exchange between researchers, the new headquarters for Kolon Industries in Seoul combines three different regions of activity: flexible stateof-the art laboratory facilities; a centralized circulation hall and grand stair for chance encounters; and a diverse program of social and community spaces. Moving from structured activity to more informal interaction, a fertile gradient of activity occurs as researchers move through the building towards the park.

SEJONG CENTER
at MORPHOSIS Architects DD (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Our site and the surrounding district is designated for commercial purpose. Therefore, it will be developed with retail, hospitality, and offices, all along a vibrant riverfront for both workers and residents. Southeast of the commercial district is the government zone, the heart of Sejong city. On the opposite side is a residential zone planned for the officials. Being situated between the two major zones, our site, the P1 block, serves as a transition point that will greatly impact the residents’ daily lives. The P1 block is also a critical point that shall provide opportunities for people to interact with nature. Therefore, the site’s adjacency to the riverside will be the project’s major asset. Also, a connection between the P1 and P2 block will serve as Sejong’s very own High Line, which will bring nature up to a higher level and offer people a unique experiences.

High performance GFRC panel facade system was developed with collaboration with facade experts and engineers from concept design to construction purpose level. One of the important aspects of facade system study was to minimize a number of facade Panel composition and types in order to construct efficiently. In this sense, our team went through several steps and iterations to find the most efficient panel adjustment of face and corner panel types. Simultaneously, a GFRC facade construction sequence, section and material quality study were necessary. The city had specific guideline of design so there are many limitations in terms of design. In order to push the design forward, we had to communicate with local team frequently to fulfill local regulations and city level design juries.

PERSHING SQUARE
at MORPHOSIS Architects Competition
Partnering with experts in urban revitalization and public -private partnership, we have created a sustainable revenue model centered on a flexible venue that supports cultural activities throughout the year. Sustainable design and flexible programming lie at the heart of our design approach. The square will need to be many things for many people -day and night. It will need to be a safe public space, local spot with dining and art to meet and mingle, a place to play, a mobility hub.

UIA Competition 2009' Honorable Mention
We suggest making the islands and the continents linked metaphorically as possible. Also, we are very firm in its stance toward the existing site. Therefore programs that could be demanded on the islands should be placed in conformity with edge of the islands to let the space sound and intact.

The system is composed of facade with repetitive oculus and a bundle of fibers entangled, which is explored in order to suggest the climate solution. It uses the law of covering snow, freezing ice. The spaces in front of one’s eyes might be disintegrated, overlapped, infiltrating into other spaces and dribbling down. There is a sense of being connected with the entire nature, of witnessing a dialogue through time.

IN BETWEEN This is an independent space that has an expansion possibility, a window with sunshine, and a space connecting the outside landscape. People can experience the hourly changing view and space. Following the changes of season, when the season of snow and water freeze comes, the IN BETWEEN which was the outdoor space becomes an indoor space. Therefore, the living area changes as a courtyard and expansions to the IN BETWEEN space
GLITTER AS LIGHTHOUSE In this area, the light is thought to be most valuable and most compatible with needs. Light and darkness are inevitably opposed to each other, we can easily conceive that light is warm and peaceful. This cold, dark night scape will change into peaceful light scape with a series of glitters which let remind us of the undersea tunnel that links resources to all over the world.
ENLARGED PLAN OF GLITTER These Glitters as an active infra, get energy from the force of the wave and drift ice and then emit light by itself. They turn saltwater to fresh water, and convey the water, besides, they perform a role of light house and milestone. Also, They are shelter of the tunnel, lounge, and observation platform which people can look out over this magnificent view. It could be a refugee harbor, or changed to another programs.
THE SURF CITY
at University of Pennsylvania LARP 602 Studio
For 10years the development regulated in the central area. This Catalyst development by making surfing training center. The facility center will be supported by related programs. Programs and land use will be regulated for 10 years to generate proper functions and activities. Global action sports brands will be selected as operators for the area and the port of LA will give them incentive for future development. Also, Olympic committee will give them authority and rent for the national surfing team training. All these related programs are the intention to make foundation of new POLA. As a strong attractor of POLA, Port O’Call village will be included this development phase.

PLUG-IN TO THE GAP
at University of Pennsylvania LARP 601 Studio
The Slate belt is the area with natural heritage of Appalachian Mountains. Along this wonderful nature, there is the Gaps of wind and water made by nature itself. People have been living diverse life per their own culture and heritage using this nature. Slate had been one of gifts from nature for people to be able to utilize it for their life. However, with the global changing of industrial situation, and now they have lost engine of the past time. This made people in the Slate belt are struggling to explore new economic engine for their future as well as for the present. The Lehigh valley is the area has good proximity to metro cities such as New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. People can reach to 1/3 of entire US population and the half of Canadian in 5hrs from this area. It is the most critical element the Lehigh Valley might could utilize for the future economy. With well-connected highway system, the Lehigh valley is taking advantage of the proximity. Also, their natural heritage is still working as economic engine as well.
