JACKETs and suits giacche e abiti The jacket is, without any doubt, a man’s item of clothing ‘par excellence’. The jacket of a suit, a ‘black tie’ jacket or a jacket worn to match casual trousers is always a synonym of elegance and is fit for all occasions. The fabric and a good make are the elements that define the nature of the jacket: formal, casual or sporty. La giacca è certamente il capo da uomo per eccellenza. TROUSERS PANTALONI Trousers are the ideal match for a jacket and are also the most versatile item of a man’s wardrobe. Classic trousers stand out for their cut, at times for front pleats and for the details of the manufacture. The turn-up gives the item a more informal feel. When worn with a tie the effect is formal and with small buttons a shirt is fit for all occasions. With embroidered initials and cufflinks the shirt is ideal for a smart suit or a tuxedo. four in a hand quattro in mano Simple tie knot, rather narrow and elongated, it pairs nicely with woolen or heavy fabrics. It is slightly asymmetrical and looks well with an open collar. Semplice da realizzare, e memorizzare, è un nodo poco voluminoso e ben si sposa con i tessuti in lana o particolarmente spessi. Ha la caratteristica di essere leggermente asimmetrico e rende bene con colletti aperti.

Back in fashion, scarves can’t be missing in a man’s wardrobe. The fabric, whether linen, silk or cashmere can be choosen according to the season and the colours and patterns can be made to suit a sporty or a smart look. The more complex knots, like the London or Milano knots, suit lighter fabrics such as silk.

Most people say the shoe is the most important item of our look. A cheap or an ugly shoe can ruin the image of an elegant man. Formal and elegant shoes must have leather soles while rubber soles can be used for sports shoes, technical shoes or rain shoes.

There a two main types of lace-up shoes: Oxfords or ‘Balmorals’ which are “closed lacing” or Derbys which are “open lacing”. The toe cap can be decorated with punching. Sometimes one or two buckles are used instead of the laces. La classica stringata esiste in due principali varianti: chiusa, francesina o Oxford, oppure aperta, detta Derby. The Slip-on-shoe is more sporty and less formal than a lace-up shoe even if it is a good alternative to wear with a suit because of its cut and material. The Italian moccasin and the moccasin with tassels are the most popular. Punching details are generally found on the tapered toe of the shoe. The velvet model, generally worn on evening occasions or at home can be more casual when worn with a pair of jeans.

The backpack is often preferred to the suitcase or to handbags for the transportation of heavier items because it is possible to balance the weight whilst walking. It is often used as hand luggage during air travel. The tote bag is very strong and resistant, it is usually made of heavy canvas or specially treated fabrics. The term ‘tote’ derives from “carry” “bring”. Associated with the figure of the messenger, the messenger bag has a shoulder strap to wear over one shoulder. Perfect for those who love to travel by bicycle.
