Hi. I’m Juraij, an architect and artist from India. I graduated with a bachelor’s in architecture 3 years back and I have been working and exploring new aspects of it ever since. I started my work as a freelancer and then went onto joining with a well-known design firm based in India, working with them for 2 years on projects of various scales and depths. The experience I gained along the way has helped me to tread on fresher grounds in my profession. I’m always keen on learning new things, and that has helped me question conventional methods in pursuit of something better. I believe in Mies van der Rohe’s famous dictum “God is in the details” and an eye for detail will render a truthful work.
My passion for visual arts helps me in understanding and analyzing the character of a space and converse in a visual language to the people through my design. I often work on personal art projects and find them helpful to mould my creative thinking thereby approaching the design process from an angle never thought of before.

The Comb is a luxury salon concept based on the thought of providing the people with an unparalleled experience of pampering, care and ambience with a distinct spatial quality. Located in a premium street concept based in Bangalore, India, the building houses various private and common spaces with ample leisure facilities as well. A rooftop cafe capturing the essence of the surrounding city adds to the overall charm of the building.
Process
The design process was based on the firm concept of a different salon experience from what the existing scenario was about, with the site conditions playing a vital role along the way as well. Closely surrounded by other buildings, the internal spaces of the salon needed a rejuvenating factor and the introduction of vertical garden wells served the purpose. A triple-height lounge with suspended bridges welcomes the people into the salon which communicates the idea of scale and levels to the person. The balance of solids and voids throughout the building is breaths in liveliness to the space.

Farhan’s cliff retreat is a vacation home concept conceived by the client himself while he was on a road trip through the northeastern mountains of India. The house is located on a valley side in Wayanad, part of the western ghats in Kerala, South of India. The 455 sqm home contains 4 bedrooms and living areas in multiples levels overlooking the gorgeous mountain range on the other side.
Process
The architecture and interior of the house was inspired from the terrain itself, being simple and serene in purpose but rigid and raw in textures. The idea was not to bring an alien structure onto the site, but to design an extension of the land fabric along with modern aesthetic and technological factors as well. The house is intended as an escape from the hustle of urban living, and to provide the client a seamless space to brainstorm and revitalize often.

Converge is a multi-functional space with a spacious yard surrounding it, set in an industrial area’s boundary belt located in Bangalore, India, aimed at transforming the adjoining vicinity to a lively area from the current scenario of abandoned yards and dark spaces.
Process
The architecture of Converge evolved from the concept of ‘Panthal’, a traditional multi-purpose pavilion built and used in various parts of India. The basic function of these pavilions is to provide an enclosure for different types of rituals and activities conducted in the locality. Converge is a modern-day interpretation of Panthal, with the roof shape evolving from the vernacular woven coconut leaf/fabric shade held together by a symmetric concrete column system inspired from the thought of people converging from various directions to a point as a part of a collective event. The material palette of the whole structure is an extension of the site context which is the industrial area, with rawness and stark hues driving the design process.

RRR Majlis is an interior design proposal done in collaboration with Desireign, an Italy/Dubai based premium vertical preserved garden consultant for His Highness Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi’s villa located in Jumeirah. The proposal comprises of a formal living, dining hall and a prayer room. The interior design follows the concept of bringing lush green foliage into the indoors with the overall character of the design being an amalgamation of rawness and plush elements.
Process
The design process in this project was majorly driven by the idea of bringing lush green foliages into the indoors. An assemblage of assorted plants from various species was selected and included in the design. Rather than providing a regular panel system, a concept of sea and land was conceived to bring in heritage and depth to the design. The idea of ‘dwelling amidst flora’ was a driving thought throughout the process and the skillfully placed green patches emerged to satisfy this criterion.

Majlis Green Wall Detail The connection between United Arab Emirates and the sea dates back a very long time. The sea helped the Emirates to connect and trade with different parts of the world.
