Dominicanas exhibieron fortaleza frente a México

Havana, Cuba, March 17, 2015 – The Peruvian team starts defeating Argentina 25-19, 25-22, and 26-24 in the III U18 Girls’ Pan American Cup which was opened this Tuesday at the Coliseum of the Sports City where the last position available to the World Championship in the upcoming August will be defined.
The top scorers of the match, which lasted an hour and 18 minutes, were outside hitter Leslie Leyva (12) and the opposite player Katherine Regalado (10) by the winning team. Whereas, on their rivals Maria Corbalan and Anahi Tosi in the same positions, respectively, both with 10 points.
The Spanish coach, Juan Diego García, of Peru, assured his girls were well since the very beginning “despite the Argentinean service put us in difficulty, but we got to hold; and the balls that we could not change their service at first, afterwards we got to restructure the game to win based on the block and defence.
Nicole Abreu, the wining captain, stated that “since the beginning we entered focused on and decided to win. It helped us to success, as well as the service and the reception as our opponents had a strong service, but we knew how to place the arms to be able to make some actions with the middle blockers and the outside hitters.”
Mauro Silvestre, Argentinean coach, expressed that his pupils are really much inexperienced, “but there are no excuses as in spite of four are playing in the National League, we must continue working and preparing for the future. We know the Peruvians very well, but now my team is different. However, the competition is like that and I am responsible of taking advantages of it.”
His captain, Azul Benitez, regretted her team played terribly, “we did expect not to know how to solve our problems; we defended badly which is one of our strengths. We had already defeated the Peruvians in the South American Tournament and in eight matches during a tour. So, we are really upset, but we have to think of tomorrow.”
Chile dominates Costa Rica easily
HAVANA, Cuba, March 17, 2015 – Chile did not have any difficulty to overcome Costa Rica 25-11, 25-11, and 25-6 on the opening day of the III U18 Girls’ Pan American Volleyball Cup, precisely in the Pool B where the candidate teams for the available ticket in battle to the World Championship are grouped.
In only one hour and three minutes, it was ended the match where the top South American scorers tallied eight points each: Josefa Martí, Karen Morales, Catalina Augurto y Magdalena Ramírez. On the Costa Rican side, Allison Font scored seven.
The Chilean coach, Hugo Jauregui, classified as good the performance of his girls. “We made a few errors and it took us from the service to have a favourable result. It has been a good start and we remember that in II Cup we also defeated the Costa Ricans, obviously it was against another team.”
Catalina Reyes, the South American captain, assured that having kept the calm throughout the match was essential. “In addition, we did not make many mistakes and kept a game rhythm; and I think we made a lot of damage with our service.”
Andrés López, young coach of Costa Rica, said that despite de failure “the match was quite beneficial in the two first sets as we played several actions on equal terms, the ball touched the upper part of the net six or seven times, and it was good. In the third set, the team collapsed morally. My pupils are not accustomed to this level and the superiority of our rivals was noticed.”
His captain, Mariana Rodríguez, praised the South Americans, “they are very quick and have a good defence. However, I think our team came from a very new process; they are little experienced players. Nevertheless I think we could have made much more in the reception as we are able to achieve greater endeavours.”

Cubans stop Puerto Rican reaction
Havana, Cuba, March 17, 2015 – Cuba achieved an important victory over Puerto Rico 25-18, 25-12, 18-25, and 25-18 in an exciting game of the Pool B of the III U18 Girls’ Pan American Volleyball Cup from which the holder of the last available ticket to the World Championship will come up.

Its captain, Aidchi Aguero, stated after breaking out the inertia of the debut, “without any doubt the unity led us to the triumph, there was a lot of devotion and readiness; although we should improve the destabilising moments. However, we attained in the fourth set to recover our game level, but we will not be confident with the other opponents as we are aimed at qualifying.”
The Puerto Rican coach, Luis Aponte, recognised the Cuban superiority in the two first sets, “we made some adjustments in the game planning and eventually it worked out. We knew our rivals were extremely strong and we bet on the service as they are good at spiking and they also had difficulty in the receiving. Nevertheless, they were able to stabilise it and with their power they dominated us.”
The captain, Joyscelyn Coronel, said that “it was a complicated match that we could have won. However we lacked more effusiveness in the court, as well as communication and intensity as they are taller and stronger than us, but we our mentality we could have defeated them.”
