Guadeloupe books ticket to NORCECA third-round GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 9, 2013. Guadeloupe prevailed over St. Kitts & Nevis 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) concluding the preliminary round of the NORCECA secondround Group L qualifying event to the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Italy. The NORCECA ranked 33 Guadeloupe finishes with a 2-1 win-loss record and books their ticket to next year’s third-round tournaments. They will face host Guatemala, currently ranked 14, in the final match on Sunday night. Guadeloupe’s offensive line was led by Meliza Bernard Fayolle with 13 points, including 6 blocks. Isabelle Acina and Beatrice Cyrilla chipped in with 13 and 11 points respectively. Isabelle Acina, captain for the winners indicted “St. Kitts played hard in the beginning but we focused on our game. It’s wonderful for Guadeloupe to qualify to the next round”. For Antoinette Henry the result wasn’t as expected “we could have done better, we slowed down because of our mistakes. We still have to fight hard for the third position in this tournament”. “As the match developed the team gained confidence because after last nights’ loss they were afraid of failing” said Jean-Louis, Coach of Guadeloupe. He expressed his satisfaction to advance to the next round as this is their first time ever to compete in a world championship qualification. “St. Kitts played good and good things will come from the good job their doing” he added. Steadroy “Star” Collins admitted “we’re not perfect and mistakes were done, the team has been working hard and we’re building up to be more successful”.
Guadalupe gana boleto a la tercera ronda NORCECA CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 9 de junio de 2013.- Guadalupe se impuso a St. Kitts & Nevis 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) concluyendo la fase preliminar de la segunda ronda NORCECA Grupo L, un torneo clasificatorio al Campeonato Mundial Femenino FIVB 2014 en Italia. Guadalupe en la posición 33 del ranking NORCECA, finaliza con marca de 2-1 en juegos ganados y sella su boleto a la tercera ronda de torneos del próximo año. Enfrentarán al anfitrión Guatemala, actual puesto 14 del ranking, en el juego final el domingo por la noche. La línea ofensiva de Guadalupe fue liderada por Meliza Bernard Fayolle con 13 puntos, incluyendo 6 de bloqueo. Isabelle Acina y Beatrice Cyrilla aportaron 13 y 11 puntos respectivamente. Guatemala shows power over Aruba GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 9 2013. Guatemala released their power defeating Aruba in straight sets (25-4, 25-10, 25-12) at the NORCECA second-round Group L finished held on Sunday morning at Alfonso Gordillo Gymnasium. The home team executed with dominance by 42-7 in spikes and 12-1 in service points. Guatemala finishes undefeated the preliminary phase and clashes against Guadeloupe in the final match on Sunday night. Natalia Giron and Andrea Diaz were the top scorers for Guatemala with 12 and 11 points respectively. “Our blocking was well organized and the team’s structure was reinforced. Guatemala was able to play our game” indicated Diana Arias. Jackie Toussaint said “Guatemala has more experience than Aruba, our players are very young and we lack of international exposure”. David Aldana, Guatemala’s Head Coach said “we gave a rest to our older players because Aruba presented a young team and this was the occasion to give our younger players a chance to compete. Aruba defended well.” Igmar Ogenia said his team has shown improvement, “with every match we’ve done better we hope to win the third position. Guatemala finaliza la fase preliminar de forma invicta y se mide ante Guadalupe en el juego final el domingo por la noche. Natalia Girón y Andrea Díaz fueron las mejores anotadoras de Guatemala con 12 y 11 puntos respectivamente. “Nuestro bloqueo fue organizado y la estructura del equipo se afianzó. Guatemala pudo hacer su juego” indicó Diana Arias. The scores in each set remained close as St. Kitts & Nevis held little advantage in serves (65) and committed fewer errors (23-39) to take home the bronze. Winless Aruba was better in the blocking category (4-3). Allen Brenda of St. Kitts & Nevis and Jackie Toussaint of Aruba were the best scorers with 13 points apiece. “We were relaxed but not enough to recover when Aruba began to push stronger and I believe this was their best match in the tournament” said Antoinette Henry captain of St. Kitts and Nevis. Jackie Toussaint said “I’m a bit disappointed because I know the girls can do better, they are very talented. We really wanted to win but our errors were too many.” “Both teams wanted to win and be in the podium, that’s why the scores were very close” indicated “Star” Collins, coach of the winners. Igmar Ogenia, Aruba’s coach was satisfied with his team but also knows that they could’ve done better “we committed mistakes giving away valuable points”.

Los marcadores de cada parcial permanecieron muy cercanos con una pequeña ventaja de St. Kitts & Nevis en puntos de servicio (6-5) y cometieron menos errores (23-39) para llevarse a casa el bronce. Aruba, sin triunfos, fue mejor en la categoría de bloqueo (4-3). Allen Brenda de St. Kitts & Nevis y Jackie Toussaint de Aruba fueron las mejores anotadoras con 13 puntos cada una. “Jugamos relajadas pero no lo suficiente para recobrarnos cuando Aruba presionaba más fuerte y pienso que este fue el mejor juego para ellas en el torneo” dijo Antoinette Henry capitana de St. Kitts and Nevis. Host Guatemala with victory over Guadeloupe by 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21) won the top spot of the NORCECA second-round Group L qualifier to the 2014 Women’s FIVB World Championship. Guatemala celebrated their victory not before suffering a scare as Guadeloupe won the second set recovering from a difference of five points. Despite Guadeloupe’s superiority in blocking 16-6, the Central Americans were able to claim the gold with advantage in spikes by 45-33 and in service points by 6-2. Guatemalan Rut Gomez scored a match high with 24 points and Blanca Recinos contributed with 13 points. Guadeloupe’s best scorers were Sandra Ramier with 15 points, Meliza Bernard Fayolle with 13 and Isabelle Acina added 10 points. Diana Arias cheerfully said “we won, I really don’t know what to say, we’re thrilled with this victory and advancing to the next round”. “For me and my girls this is a good result and it was a pleasure to battle against a great team like Guatemala” expressed Isabelle Acina of Guadeloupe. “The team was instructed to neutralize the opponents’ best hitters and I’m very satisfied with the outcome, the girls deserve first place” were the words of David Aldana, Guatemala’s coach. Jean-Louis praised his team’s effort as they don’t frequently play at this high level, “we return home with a positive result, the team did a good job against Guatemala that played very well. Guatemala gana primer lugar del Grupo L CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 9 de junio de 2013.- El anfitrión Guatemala con triunfo sobre Guadalupe por 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21) ganó el primer lugar de la segunda ronda NORCECA Grupo L clasificatoria al Campeonato Mundial Femenino FIVB 2014. Guatemala celebró su victoria no sin antes sufrir un susto cuando Guadalupe ganó el segundo set recobrándose de una diferencia de cinco puntos. A pesar de la superioridad de Guadalupe en el bloqueo por 16-6, las centroamericanas pudieron llevarse el oro con ventaja en el ataque por 45-33 y en puntos de servicio por 6-2. La guatemalteca Rut Gómez obtuvo el punteo más alto del juego con 24 puntos y Blanca Recinos contribuyó con 13 puntos. Las máximas anotadoras de Guadalupe fueron Sandra Ramier con 15 puntos, Meliza Bernard Fayolle con 13 e Isabelle Acina aportó 10 puntos.
